GTi Chris
Apologies if this topic has been covered before- couldn't find anything with search to specifically answer my question (still looking!!!). I have sourced a 2.0L lump out of a S reg Mondeo- everythings with it the loom, the ECU, the key and ignition barrel. Only problem is (I haven't seen it in the flesh yet just pics on fleabay) the loom looks like spaghetti and lloks like it could be a problem wiring it all in. The guy had the engine for a westfield but give up so prolly wasn't arsed about electrics like what I am. Can I just use my existing loom off my GTi and just swap ECU's when I drop the lump in? I can't see why I wouldn't be able to do this as I just require the 2.0L ECU for the engine management- but I'm worried about everything else electrical not working. Again sorry if this annoys long term members who are p1ssed off with reading this shite all the time. The lump doesn't stand me at much £40- it's too good to be true and we all know what happens when thats the case!!!!!
Stu
It does get covered often but it's a hard topic to search for due to the silly 3 letter minimum search criteria rule. Is the engine a silver top or a black top? Assuming silver top...: Put escort/fiesta water pump, oil pump, sump, oil pickup pipe and windage tray onto the 2L engineYou'll need an early 2L ECU with code DEEP, DESK, DEWY and associated MAF and fuel injectors (must match)Read the howto on this site on how to use the above ecu with a GTI loom et voila. Thanks for the reply Stu I have the original ECU for the engine (it is Silvertop) will this not just plug and play? I also have the transponder for the ignition as well? I have been looking at the How to's but with me having the original ECU from the engine was hoping I wouldn't need to source a Deep, Desk, Dewy ECU? Stu
The conversion becomes more complex. It's not documented so you'll have to suss it out for youself with some wiring diagrams and knowledge of the PATS system. I believe SteveB on here has done it, you'll need the Mondeo PATS receiver and module.

Ok cheers Stu IMO its not worth the hassle of it, go down the Pre Pats route, I looked into keeping PATS and it just seemed so much hassle. The re wire to add a DESK or DEEP or DEWY ecu is very straight forward... took Ross 5mins to change the pins on mine, the How to guide on here works a treat

GTi Chris
Damn- presumed it was a silver top and a friend picked it up as I was working on that night and it's black. Is it possible to fit one of these in an Escort. Knew I should've gone with him
Stu
It can be done but it's not a straight-forward swap.

Doing the silvertop conversion is barely worth the effort in my opinion, so extra work for the blacktop is a definite no no to me. Each to their own though. Search through DanZetec threads/project as he's documented what you need to do.
