My 1st escort (1st car)

I was the same with my 1st escort. Big kit e.t.c. I actually still have all my kit, albeit modified somehow but now in my more mature state am coming around to 'less is more' approach. Its your 1st car so do what you fancy. Anything is more individual and interesting than another bloody rs kit! :curse:

Ahh, the good ol days of offering up a nice big bumper sat on bits of wood or an argos catalogue, all multicoloured, and you dont even care cos in your head you know its gonna look good, even if not to anyone elses taste!lol! 1 thing I think looks good with big kits like this, it gives it a touring car feel :thumb: the thing with it is dont feel too disheartened with any1 yelling you they think it'll look crap. especially on here, no offence to anyone but on an escort site, anything that deviates from a standard kit, they normally thinks its crap! the most exciting mod they can come up with is a renault splitter, ooooooh exciting! :nutter: keep going mate, in time your taste will change but this will always be YOUR 1ST CAR.

I don't know if its anyone else's cup of tea but all i know is mine went down my windpipe when i clicked on this thread,

I didn't even know companies still made that type of spoiler,

a home truth it looks like something either

a) dragged up out of the sea on the end of a fishing hook,

b) something im sure ive seen in star trek sometime :D

To be fair im just not a bodykit man, some people like them, some don't, Ive been there and done that and found ive gained more people taking the ripping pee more than the intended headturn look -or turning heads for the right reasons ;) loads of plastic and airfix spoilers just don't do it for me, but all the same im sure lots of effort and money will be put into this and i will wish you the best of luck mate ;) :) :thumb:

P.S tell your mate to hide his arse as well

There's a very good reason for people having that opinion. A lot of the people on this site have been around Escorts a very long time, and many of them have gone through the body kit phase. After spending time around a certain car, you tend to get a good idea of what works and what doesn't work, and big kits just don't work on the Escort shape. None of them suit the cars lines, and just clash completely with the basic shape of the car. Experience is a wonderful thing when it comes to modifying cars, and sticking to simple bits works best. The reason the Ford kits look the best, is because they were designed by the people who designed the car. They spent pots of money making it suit just right, so it would have mass appeal. It isn't just some generic kit that's been hacked about slightly so it fits onto the Escort, as many of these aftermarket kits are. All these people saying how your opinion will change are right, whatever car it is.

At the end of the day, this lad can do as he please, it's his money, but he will wake up one day and realise what a mistake he made. It may not be now, it may be years after the car has long gone, but he will look back and think "What was I thinking?!" It's only a matter of time...

Back to the car itself; if you're happy, that's all that matters, but please please please please don't start fitting massive body kits and leaving the standard wheels on it. To pull that kit off, you'll need 17s at the very least, so fit those first and get it lowered, then worry about fitting the kit. It will look ridiculous with the kit on and steel wheels. Also, if you plan to flush the tailgate, make sure you get a panel welded in to cover the recess. You want as little filler as possible, or it will just sink and look uneven and terrible!

words of wisdom there, you sound like the grandad of the site lol. It is funny to think that everyone at some point like you say has had the big kit phase! Even some of you who hate them! As long as people respect his ideas, Whatever people think, theres always a nice way to say somethin even if its critisism. I dont like seeing people write on someones post.... thats rubbish, thats bollox e.t.c. give guidance and help not abuse, its not the community way. c'mon wangers, you must of had a big kit at some point before growing up...spill the beans!? :thumb:
