My opinion is it's the best car I've owned all round, some bits arent as good as other cars I've had but as a whole i'd rather have this, and pay to run this, than ANY other car I've owned and any car out there today for under 3 grand. I paid 2550 for this with tax til end of Oct and full MOT.

Good bits

Economy (53MPG averaged so far, 50/50 town and motorway driving)

Seats, fantastically comfy black leather, electric with memory on mine and full manual adjustment for passenger (height, base tilt, lumbar etc)

Stereo, 9 speakers, fantastic bass with no distortion even at high volumes, Dolby and DTS decoder

Power delivery, may "only" be the 163PS but its fantastic, much better than 130 from a mondeo.

Boot space, it's big enough

Bad bits

Boot access hole size, due to the shape of the lights the boot gap is quite narrow, good job i dont wanna try and slide a tabletop or something in there.

"High emissions" warning on dash, but since its just passed its MOT, and is not drinking fuel/burning oil or smoking at all, im not too bothered

Cracked windscreen

Not the best visibility due to the short windows and large pillars, so you have to be very careful looking out to make sure no-one is hiding behind a pillar. On the flipside though this makes the interior quite nice and cacoony.

Opinons welcomed, plans are

Prancing moose stickers and T5D5 sticker in window

Stage 1 MTE remap

aftermarket FMIC maybe (OEM item is a weak point)

MOAR induction noise so a drilled airbox or cone filter may be in order.

wouldnt do any mods to a volvo to be honest

volvos can look good modded and are usually very under-rated.

nice Volvo, i had the same problem with my 850 what had to do was lift flat packed stuff over the tailights then slide into the boot.

high emissions light maybe a previous code which has been cured but not cleared?

and there's plenty of power to be had out the D5 just do some searches mainly the Volvo owners club forum.

enjoy!

one of the nicer OAPs cars  :innocent:

Nice car, I was thinking of these...

When I retire :innocent:

Maybe you should try one before you talk bad about them, There is no area where the Escort, or even the Mk3 mondeo, will beat this car. (OK the mondie is cheaper than the volvo to tax, but the volvo is cheaper than 1.6/1.8 escorts)

mk3 Mondeo beats it in looks and handling, to name but 2 areas......

I like it..............you seem to Fcuking jizz over it

Looks is a matter of opinion, I prefer the volvos "shoulders" and smoked headlights to the mondeos flat sides and sharp shiny headlights, then the interior looks the volvo wins hands down, along with how it all feels to the touch.

"Handling" is something that isnt relevant on the public roads IMO, If the volvo understeers into a hedge round a corner it'll be because its being driven too fast, yes a mondeo may make it round the same corner without falling off the road but the police may have something to say about the fact you went round that bend at xxMPH. At 60 and below most cars can take most corners without slowing down and without understeering. And I wouldnt sacrifice the pros of the S60 to gain the ability to do 4MPH more without understeering.

I'm happy with my purchase as I've said, and I'm just trying to get accross to the blinkered that the stigma with Volvos is not justified. Ditch the slow crappy specced escorts and get P2 volvos

OMG you're gonna be like arguing about smoking with a smoker......I won't bother then lol*.....

don't get me wrong, used to drive my mates V70 loads, loved every minute of it

(handling isn't relevant on public roads) :P

*Fcuk it, I will :P

The interior looks VERY dated compared to the Mondeo, and the Mondeo's later SONY ICE is very, very good as standard.

Handling, worlds apart.

Looks, again, worlds apart (although that is opinion as you say, but i'd wager that would be the opinion of the majority)

Fair play to ya, you're happy, it was your money, simple  But going by what you've said, the 'stigma' seems to be right, as you seemed to have aged 30 years :P

I have to agree with lee about the looks and handling, mum had an s60 as a loan car from volvo once it was a cracking car but a bit dated.

Mondeos are also cheaper for parts :P
