  • 1 year later...

well this has been sat on my drive for over 12 months and i decided as i am not wroking at the moment (long story but i have been suspended) that i would do the little bit of welding that was needed to the sills for its MOT

after doing some proding about the little bit has turned out to be alot

the only good thing is that i want to learn to weld so i can do my own cars in future and save me some money so rather than scrap another escort i am going to weld it up myself so if it passes its MOT i know my welding is alright

here it is looking sorry for itself: note the odd wheels and the red oxide patches on the sills

the red oxide patches on the sills are from where my friend who said he was a good welder started to have a go at patching it up and frankly they were rubbish

this is the rear of the drivers side sill that has been patched up

same on the passengers side where i started to grind down the welds and make it look better

then i moved onto the front where there was a hole in the sill and cut the rot out

i then proded about inderneath and it had been pathed up on the floor pan previously before i got the car and the patch had rotted so i lifted the carpet up and found the patch and then i cut it out and the inner sill was found to be rotted too

after this dissaster i decided to pull the rest of the carpet up to find the full extent of the rot and to see how much work it is going to need only to find more previous repairs and holes

then the drivers side carpet was lifted up to find how much work is required on that side of the car

this is the same bad repair work in the dreivers side front floor pan, again i knew about this when i bought it and it seems solid so i am undecided on what to do with this bit

then moving back down the inner sill to find this

and this towards the rear

that is it for today as it has been raining so i couldn't get the grinder or welder out

i am quite looking forward to attacking this and to get it back road worhty

i am also considering refurbing my RS wheels to a grey colour to fit to this as it will take over dialy duties from my black escort that is also suffering from the dreaded rot
