I hugely despise everyone involved in that.

quite agree, complete and utter cock ends, they should catch the ring leanders and string them up by the balls, and anybody else involved that we students kick them out of uni, and put on 1 year community service (unpaid of course)

Problem is that it creates the age old divide between those that can actually afford to go to uni and those that cant, which in turn causes a bigger divide between the rich and poor, as only rich people can afford the qualifications for the skilled jobs. Ive got no problem with degrees being partly funded by the state as it creates a stronger skilled work force (ie the doctors who will look after you when youre old and smelling of p!ss).

I do think that this should only be the case for the core subjects though, and not the mickey mouse ones that are going to attract the layabouts looking for a 3 year party, or those who are only going to university as they dont want to start working.

I'm paying back 21k of debt, just to get a better job. How is that "sponging?" I work part time at uni, and certainly don't take it for granted. I'm glad I was given the chance to go uni, and feel that I definitely wouldn't be able to if tuition fees doubled.

Besides, it's a chance to do things and meet people whilst gaining life skills, etc.

I wish I went to your Uni...

I'll just point out that you dont pay the fees back until AFTER youve graduated, and (for the new fees) once youre in a job earning more than the average national salary in the UK.

And as for dividing the rich from the poor, thats why there are still means tested grants, so the government pays grants to poor students in lieu of the income which parents would otherwise be expected to make up. Its actually quite fair, if you think about it.

The government have moved the goalposts by 200% over and above, they are right to be a tad upset, but if they dont wanna pay the costs then they will just have to settle for not having a degree. Getting violent about it is not the way to go, the cops should have battered any one of them that got violent, and the people who threatened life by starting fires etc should be strung up.

I dont really see what all of the fuss is about

1) you dont pay fees till you earn over 15k (at £15 its like £4 a month)

2) its written off after 25yrs.

Not to mention the other possible ways to get out paying it by using salary sacrafice schemes

Me and the missus have 35k of student loan debt between us and shes getting her masters fully funded by the NHS

People are complaining because what at the minute doesnt cost very much but leads to an increased likelihood of earning a more than average salary, someone else in the future will have to pay £9k a year for but only when they are earning above the national average salary.

Scandal!
