eetaylog
Im on the lookout for a new car at the minute and will probably end up buying from a dealer but have never had dealings with them before. Im probably going to want to come down on forecourt price on any potential car, but was wondering what sort of percentage a dealer would reasonably expect to be haggled to. Im going to look at an e46 3 series 330Ci on Saturday which is priced at just under £6k and sounds like its in good condition with FBMWSH etc, but the tax is running out at the end of the year so was thinking of using it as leverage to get ~£250 knocked off the price. Would this be reasonable/not enough iyo? Any other tips appreciated as well as i dont want to have my pants pulled down.
sidrick
You'd EASILY get £250 off. Start at £1250 off and meet about £750 off.

Really?! what sort of green do you think they pay for them in the first place? Idve though that haggling to anything less than they sell for in the private market would be shooting myself in the foot? They get them from other dealers, auctions and trade-ins, so they pay less than the private market, considerably so. When one of them approaches you, tell them you've seen the same car privately £1500 less, then work from there. Once he smells the commission, he'll do anything to clinch the sale. Like I said, I'd expect £750 off of that, although you may be pawned off with £500 and some supaguard or new car matts.
