I think your gearbox syncromesh is fookd mate. Looks like a new box.

or less drama queen like.... thrust bearing.

can you be more specific?

any additional symptoms?

do any other gears show signs of increasing difficulty?

the reverse gear is usually the first to suffer when a thrust bearing gives up

Less dramatic? Either way sounds like the box has to come out!

Indeed.

however.

New decent recon'd box = £80-120

New NEW box = £150+

Thrust bearing = £20 tops and you can fit it yourself

monetary wise....... Less dramatic.

second and third have become a little bit tempremental in the last couple of days, I tink I will go raid a scrappie only problem is most of them round here are zetecs and mine is a cvh - will that be a problem or can a box of a zetec fit the cvh?

depends on front or rear starter location, I believe aslong as you get an identical starter location box you should be right.

tho If it is the thrust bearing (which as you described further issues indocates) it will be cheaper to replace that then get a crapper box too (usually around the £40 mark for a half decent "looking" one)

Well in that case its a trip to the local motorfactors then... does anybody know where I can find a guide or instructions on changing the thrust bearing?

once the box is off you'll be able to see how to remove and reinstall, its a very simple one peice part, nothing you'd call fiddly.

the thrist bearing is around the spindle just inside the bell housing and completely simple to get at with box off.

My phone is playing up I tried to edit my post after I wrote it to mention that the clutch or thrust bearing might be on the way out, and then my batery ran out. Lol.

If you are going to all the bother to get a new thrust bering, why dont you just get a clutch kit, u could probably get1 for 60 70quid. And if that dosnt sorte it its the gearbox m8. oh btw hows the selector?
