Dose your Zetec run like crap use loads off fuel?? Have you looked on every forum and googled every thing you can think off to find out the problem.

Each time do you come up with the samething

Air flow meter

Coil pack

HT leads

Spark plugs

Lamba sensor

Well it might not be any off them. as i tried them all and changing them as i went and it never sorted out the problem.

Your problem could be a air leak on the crank breather system as fitted to zetecs.

The is a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve in the front of the block. it sits at the front off the block near the exhaust manifold.

It connects via a rubber hose and metal pipe to the inlet manifold and if the valve is not working correctly the the engine will draw in more air witch will cause it to misfire like mine did.

I could tell my valve was not working correctly as when I looked into the inlet manifold (open the throttle body) I could see oil sitting in the bottom.

Since then i have cleaned out all the pipes connecting the PCV to the inlet manifold and fitted another PCV.

Know my car runs 100 times better then it did before and dose not misfire when i reach 4000rpm.

A new PCV valve can be had for around £10 from burton power. I just went to the scrap yard and got one to try (free)

Pic off the valve pulled out off the crank breather housing and turned up rite to show you what im on about

Hope this helps some off you out and don't start spending money you might not need to

I had this issue also and tried what you described and it didn't work.

My problem was fixed when I checked the relays near the fusebox.

When putting in six speed wipers, 20sec courtesy light delay and intermittent rear wiper (relays) at some point the fuel pump relay must've been knocked loose (can't remember the colour of it  ).

Over 6 months ago I shoved the bugger back in, good and hard!!!, and have had no erratic idle issues since (touching wood).

Worth a go, 5mins of your time, particularly if you've messed about with relays.
