Alright lads i do deliverys for a chinese takeaway currently and im severly tempted to get some winter tyres as obviously like today i dont get paid if i cant get there. My next problem from what ive read winter tyres usually last longer than normal tyres (in cold conditions obv) so id need to put them on a set of wheels i could take off, so i could try and get 2 GTI wheels or fit the tyres to the 2 RS wheels i already have and just not give a fook they dont match

Opinions please

Steelies would probably be even better, as theyre thinner. Of course, it'll look crap but youll be glad not spending money on alloys if you go sliding into a kerb.

very good point :thumb: , but do they go over rs2k brakes?

afaik standard steelies are of thinner construction than alloys so you likely finf the steel inside diameter larger than a alloy of simmiliar size.

If your calipers fit inside a 15" alloy, they'll fit easily under a steelie.

15" steelies will fit over rs2k brakes easily, i've done it.

IMO get a set of gti rims, you can pick up a set for £50 now, if they have kerb marks don't worry they are a winter set.

Stay off budget winter tyres, worthless IMO, sunny rubbish avoid.

Goodyear ultra grip I found were the best, £60 a corner thou in 195/50r15, but the grip is quite impressive, but make sure you get 4!

pic of my wheels and tyres on now:

ah i didnt even try as i assumed they wouldnt, will try tomorow if i can get in the shed

You may need 15" steelies from a focus or 4 escort 15" spares :thumb:

Might just use my rs wheels then as my scrappy is shut atm due to snow :nutter:

Didnt the mondeo come with 16" steelies on the bog specs?

AFAIK 15s where available

Ok next q, anyone got any thed like to recogmend so far ive see Vredistens (spelling!) and Toyo tho the local garages dont stock toyos :nutter:

LordJC has answered the Q lol, do you think i could get 2 for the front and 2 for the back maybe a couple of weeks later? £240s alot for a student before christmas lol

the problem is, if you have 2 on the front and grip you will loose the back end when you corner, trust me :innocent:

problem you have now is, winter tyres are hard to get in this country, and alot of places are out of stock. You could consider part worns, the german used tyre ware house often has some decent ones in at ~5mm tred?

ive just picked up a couple of part worns 4mm on them for £60, they are continential WinterContact TS810S

they only have to do me till the spring and trying to get brand new winter tyres is like trying to get a blowjob from jessica alba!

It's worth noting here when you all worry about wheel fitment; that the MK1/2 Mondeo were fitted with the 260mm RS2000 brakes as standard, and most of them had 14" steel wheels...

The myth about needing 15s to clear RS brakes comes from the rear disks, not the front ones.
