What sat nav should I get?

my sisters tomtom one seemed pretty decent until I bought a older Navman S70 (you get them refurbished for new data tyes now) and it p*ssed all over her tomtom......then curled one off in its lap...... then felt sick of how pathetic it now looked with p*ss all over it and a nice steamin log in its lap and promptly vomited on it too.

Kinda validated my belief that just cos everyone buys it.....doesnt mean its the best or even the most appropriate.

Get a refurbed Navman, they go for around the £70 new from online stores and with the new data handling they have instant rerouting, traffic alert, updated speed cam data aswell as being wide screen and very easy to use.

i have had a garmin for the last 5 years and hasn't let me down once!!!! even during courier work!! everyone says tom tom are the best but to be honest i tried using one compared to my garmin and bloody hell the tom tom was annoying. the directions they give out a good 3 or four times, don't want that on a long trip. and the functions are harder to understand. if you want something simple and easy to use without giving you a headache then go for garmin!!

Search ebay for "Navman not working or for spares", I had one.

Yes it does look pretty - but is it faster ? Better out in the sticks ? Does it have easily stealable maps and updates ? :)

Tomtom isn't perfect - I would have some stories where I managed to end up, but I just can't find anything with better postcode recognition, more POI, faster update, etc.

I can't claim to have tested every satnav on the planet, but i've tried a few and have come to the conclusion that TomTom is very good for a dedicated unit and as far as mobile device software goes, I think CoPilot is the best.

worked spot on everywhere I went, from the yorkshire dales and the rhonda valleys to the new estates of toxteth in liverpool, unlike my sisters tomtom which at one point even told me I was in a field south of London while I was parked up in Birmingham

the rerouting was as quick as any other unit Ive ever used (barring maybe the one that was built into my New Astra which was silly fast but I never knew its brand)and the updates from later models worked perfectly on the my older refurbed s70.
