jamesgti
Right im having second thoughts about selling my car and need to know some answers. Is it worth putting a 2.0litre engine in it or just upgrading parts on my current 1800? Been told its easier and to upgrade as the 2.0litre aint much difference. Oh and if you say upgrade what parts do you recommend? Opinions please people??? Edited January 4, 2011 by jamesgti
massivewangers
2.0 all the way. It's a much better all round upgrade. Gives a nice gain in power and torque and the car pulls a lot better from low revs.
caled
If you are going to be doing upgrades, you may aswell start from the best engine you can get your hands on. No point in modifying a 1.8 to get nearly as much power as from a standard 2.0.
Danzetec
You will be best upgrading to a 2 litre engine
ScORTED
if your capable of doing it yourself absolutely upgrade to a 2.0... your not going to break the 150 barrier without spending £2000on it so if you want more power than that get something else

ScORTED
the nitrous debate is as old as the hills yup "cheap power" however it does mean carrying nitrous -which is pretty difficult to get insured, and only as long as you have gas in tank. one for drag only imo
Stu
I think a more relevant question should be "How fast do you want the car?" and then a suitable solution can be proposed. If you want to make your Escort 'fast' then none of the above will achieve that.
jamesgti
well my current engine 1.8 has over105,000 on it and its seems to be getting slow and old so was thing of a change or upgrades. But by the answers ive seen you most say go for the 2.0litre.

bluliz
What???? Stu asked the one question that you need to answer, this answer will determine what you should waste your money on. You chose to completely ignore his question. Edited January 5, 2011 by bluliz
Craig855S
Your 1.8 at 105,000 miles should be in good nick, and any 2.0 silvertop you find in scrappies will have similar (or higher) mileage on,and, even then, most should be in good health. (unless that's why theyre in the scrappy - camblet failure and such like)
Scort_CVH
1.8 to 2.0 is far too much hastle for the gain imo
