massivewangers
1.8 to 2.0 is far too much hastle for the gain imo Have you owned both out of interest? Cos I have. I've had two 2.0s and two 1.8s, and the 2.0s were noticably better. It doesn't give a massive power increase, but the extra grunt makes the 2.0 a lot more versatile on the road. I've seen a lot of 2.0 converted cars knocking out 0-60s in the low 8s without hassle. Although accuracy can't be guaranteed, to knock roughly a second of the 0-60 time for an outlay of about £500 quid makes it pretty good value really. Stu
I think a more relevant question should be "How fast do you want the car?" and then a suitable solution can be proposed. If you want to make your Escort 'fast' then none of the above will achieve that. would like it a bit quicker then the 1.8 its got at the moment. How much is 'a bit'? 5%? 10%? 200%? Scort_CVH
1.8 to 2.0 is far too much hastle for the gain imo Have you owned both out of interest? No, but i think changing the engine is too much hastle tbh. just buying one is different as then theres no effort
massivewangers
No Not really sure how you can have an opinion on the conversion then?
ScORTED
The 2.0 has more power and torque, I've done the conversion myself and I've had a lot of escorts, as I said in the beginning... its worthwhile if you can do the work yourself.but as i also said as long as you don't expect over 150hp to be had cheaply go for it
Markt8
i had a 1.8 with a 2ltr throttle body, power boost valve, 2ltr cams, powerflow exhaust and induction kit and it was running 136bhp rolling road proof mark
ScORTED
what power did it make before and who's rolling road? I bet a good 2.0 would be faster in a race!
JC
IMO having driven a 1.8 GTi, 1.6 and now a 2.0 Zetec, the 2.0 is way better to drive than the 1.6 or 1.8, and does have noticeable power. If you can change the engine yourself go for it!

Markt8
what power did it make before and who's rolling road? I bet a good 2.0 would be faster in a race! Yeah ive also had a standard 2ltr with no mods and it would of slaughtered it no probs, but wasnt bad for a 1.8 i think it would be hard to get more and tbh it had no power below 4000rpm mark
RobMk6
I know I'm just adding something thats already been said, But I've done 2.0ltr conversions on both 1600 and 1800 cars and there is a noticeable difference. I would'nt bother with modding the 1800 engine, my reasons? as has been said, can get 136bhp by adding parts so on so forth, but then your still left with less torque than the 2.0ltr. plus if you can do it yourself the 2.0ltr is a cheaper option

That's as good as me saying I think that the Gallardo is better to drive than the F430, despite never having owned/driven either of them. Unless you've driven both for any amount of time, and have experience of how both drive and deliver power, how are you in a position to say which is better and which is worth doing/not doing?
