Posted February 20, 201113 yr Hey guys, this week some time I'm gonna be buying a Escort GTi and there is a little bit of work needed but is a good base car for a tidy project. One of my concerns is the ABS light on the dash. It was on when i gave it a quick test drive. Is it as simple as a sensor? or is there something else. The brakes were a bit.... crap. But discs seemed new ish, just been standing a few weeks.
February 20, 201113 yr 17 views so far and no one suggested anything!! I dont really know about these sort of things however with electrics like this i'd stop by a garage and quiz em, see what they say. Just hope they dont come out with the ol ... Well you'll have to bring it in line!
February 20, 201113 yr Haha i looked at it and thought, ABS isn't my strong point i must admit. I was gonna say about Magnetic strips on wheel bearings but i believe thats a relatively new thing? As just said, i would ask a garage about it.
February 20, 201113 yr could be a brake in the ABS ring don't know if it is fords way of saying the Disc Pad is low on the electrical cables that sometimes dangle off the pads
February 20, 201113 yr at the college i go to there is an Orion and that has an ABS ring on t' end of Driveshaft
February 20, 201113 yr I had the same problem with mine a few months back... It could be either the sensors at the front, or the rear... mine was the rear, the wire had split so nice easy fix Best thing todo is take it to a place where they can test which sensor has gone, so you don't have to fork out to get each one sorted. Good luck
February 21, 201113 yr I had this problem with my tddi after going through a deep puddle. turned out that it was the n/s abs sensor. They found it by plugging in a fault code reader. Just take it to a decent garage and they can tell you where the fault is. But trust me even through a garage the abs sensor is not cheap. Edited February 21, 201113 yr by Flash4203
March 3, 201113 yr Author Sorry for late reply, been busy getting it ready for the MOT retest. Its getting annoying, atleast every journey is shuddering and loosing power. And when the battery is on low power (after standing and using stuff) it'll cut out. so it could be: ABS sensors, ABS rings (behind discs on front or in the drums at the back?). Think i'm gonna have to take it to a garage and get it checked then
March 3, 201113 yr Yeah pumatt, then you will know what needs replacing, not cheap though if it is a sensor. :-) and the lack off power could be alternator? Not giving enough juice?
March 4, 201113 yr Author I was thinking alternator. If theres a bad earth coming off the negative terminal what would this cause? I believe this is one of my problems. I had ABS sensor issues in my puma and sourced some 2nd hand ones, but didnt make it any better. just stopped the "ABS check" being so vicious. Would it be easier to disable the system? and cheaper?
March 4, 201113 yr Do they have ABS Rings? I don't really know what ABS system 'Scorts have. Ring and sensor setup. The last time my mates Abs light came on in his old Gti it turned out to be a failed sensor on just one of the side. Abs still functioned exactly as it should even with the one sensor down.
