Before you all say yes....

I could have sworn I posted in here earlier. Has it been deleted? If it has, why?

I might be being a mong and may have not posted it for some reason, but I'm certain I did

I was asking for that I suppose...

But, please tell me that isn't actually a rule? Honestly?

Lordy, Lordy might be trying out his new powers! :pancake:

^^Mr Herman usually tells you off via PM if he spots wrong doing.

Yes your special lol.

I deleted it, yes you asked for parts not listed/priced.

We have a pm system its easy to use. Breaking threads if left to run wild will simply stay at the top like some silly msn conversation. The price rule was put in place for this very reason, its unfair to have threads bumped every few minutes for a handle, starter motor, lock, bumper etc.

I do not have time to write this in every thread it happens although I do every now and then.

I have mentioned many times that posts may be deleted without warning, yours was.

Seriously?

That's madness. Every other forum in the world manages ok without such a rule. I can understand the pricing thing to an extent, as it is frustrating if people don't put prices for items. But, to not allow people to ask about specific items on a thread for a car being dismantled is just ridiculous in my eyes. The name "discussion forum" is pretty self explanatory, yet it seems discussion has been outlawed. After all, inboxes have limited capacity, especially for non-club members. I can't see any problem at all with people asking questions about items for sale, whether they are specifically listed or not. Someone breaking car can't be expected to list every item, and sending PMs every five minutes and wasting inbox space is ridiculous. It means the board itself is being wasted.

I have never come across this apparent problem of excessive bumping due to people asking questions on other forums I frequent. Certainly not to a level where it causes annoyance. With this and the ban on comments on FS threads, it seems that Evo is inventing problems with classified ads that simply don't exist.

I really think serious thought needs to be given to these policies. This forum used to have probably the best classified section of any for buying and selling MK5/6 Escort parts, but it seems to be declining at a pretty steady rate now. I've had this discussion with several people, and over-moderation is seriously putting people off joining and causing other people to just give up on the place. I've often defended this forum from criticism (of which there is a lot), but I really wonder why I bother when things like this come up. Escort owning/modifying is in decline as it is, but it seems that Evo is intent on engineering way to increase that decline!

And ???

MW, I do love the fact the "club in decline" because you couldnt ask for a set of handles.

Maybe if you trundle to certain clubs like PF you would prefer to pay for the right to advertise?

We offer the service free, with a few (surely simple) rules.

Since when was the for sale section a discussion forum the clue is in the title.

As for annoying, you wouldn't find a two page thread conversing about a strut brace annoying? Maybe if you were selling something it might?

The fact I couldn't ask about a set of handles doesn't show decline, but the rule sure helps, along with the other rules about not being able to discuss anything on for sale threads, and the heavy handed moderating, and the fact that many long-standing members have disappeared from here yet still post on other forums. Not to mention all the people I see saying they can't be arsed with this place, and topics on other forums saying what a pain in the backside it now is with so many silly policies like this one.

I am a member of other forums, including PF, and the fact they don't have these rules doesn't seem to adversely effect their classified sections, nor has it on any other forum I use, whether paid membership is required or otherwise. What is apparent, is that I willingly pay to be a member of PF, and a couple of other forums, but choose not to here, because of all the ridiculous politics and limitations put in place that simply make it difficult to buy and sell here.

I wouldn't find a two page discussion about a strut brace irritating if it got a sale. Or if it didn't to be honest. Whether the area of the forum says "For Sale" or "Random Utterings" makes no odds in the slightest. The purpose of forums such as these is discussion, hence them being widely known as discussion boards, whatever the section or particular content.

Going by other forums, which have no problem in the slightest with the issues that are cited here, it appears that admin are doing nothing more than making work for themselves. This forum is hugely over-moderated, most others I go on don't have anything like as many posts being removed or moved around. People just get on with it. If the odd post ends up in the wrong place, or people ask questions that aren't that relevant, that's life, it's only the internet. You say you don't have time to give reasons every time you do something, but is it any wonder when you're having to stop people posting perfectly relevant material?

What's utterly ridiculous here; is that I wasn't posting inane garbage, or something totally unrelated to the topic, I asked a perfectly valid question. The person started a post about breaking a car, and I asked if a certain part of that car was available for sale. I don't see how it could get more relevant than that.

I simply cannot comprehend how anyone can't see how obscene that is. It's moderating for moderating's sake.

Gotta agree with everything the wangered one has said!

I'm one of the people he's spoken to it, and many a time it was me who brought it up! Locking topics because they don't meet the rules, then demanding the OP contact you before you will re-open it is like being sent to the headmasters office at school! What's wrong with just replying asking for location and price OR it'll get locked?

I've stepped in many times recently advising that the rules need to be adhered too, as I think the way it's moderated otherwise is laughable and Pees many people off! The OP usually thanks me and adds the relevant info... Simples!

As said earlier, this forum used to have a brilliant, busy, for sale section, but as the day's go by I'm thinking there's not gonna be much to moderate, soon!

I havn't recieved any report or complaint from your good self until this incident, I draw my own conclusion to that.

You keep banging on about "other forums", we have always had our rules in place why would we change them to suit other forums ot their users.

The rule if you must know came up in a suggestion thread asking for it, we acted upon members wishes, I suppose you can't please everyone.

You say "over moderated" although I myself work all day and hardly visit the board during that time plus we have only just announced our second moderator.

You say we have "all the ridiculous politics and limitations", are you sure that theyre so extensive? I always thought they were rather easy going?

I'm bewildered why you think a for sale section should/could include random utterings and off topic inclusion. (hey why not have one big section & put all theads in there, that would make it easy to navigate).

The pure fact you even felt the need to create a thread wondering where your post had gone bewilders me even more, it's bizzare even by EVO standards. :pancake:

Buying & selling here is a free privalage, a few rules is hardly rocket science, nor is the ability to PM a person asking for parts.

Hightower its an automated reply when a post is locked, im not personally telling you off pmsl (unless the headmasters office is a fantasy of yours then I'm sorry for ruining it lol).

Often threads are locked as a result of a report from members (yes you the members). If we don't act on it guess what, we get it wrong again.

I get PM's saying we moderate too much and not enough. You can't win em all trust me lol.

Can I also say we have a number of professional breakers here that manage this rule just fine and still sell without problems? Heavyrightfoot for one (hope you don't mind) as an example manages to sell within the rules with ease.

yawn before i became a member i had to keep waiting for a certain time to reply to a pm over for sale stuff, and when the time arrived saying i could pm it it still didnt work. So it annoyed me that much i bought the membership to over come it
