Posted February 28, 201113 yr Obviously, if you go to a fancy restaurant you're paying for the style of the food, and of course it needs to taste good. My question is do chefs have a "responsibility" about the ingredients they put in their dishes or could they theoretically just pack their food with loads of sugar, fat, salt, etc. just so it tastes good? Because if that's the case then surely you're not just paying through the nose for food but putting very unhealthy stuff inside your body.
February 28, 201113 yr Good question, I have known, and do know a few chefs, and they all take pride in what they prepare, but, they do all go for the taste thing first, so if the ingredient(s), contain some of what you have stated, then in it goes, so no they do not have any responsability. But lets face it, if you had to cook something without the bad stuff in, i think you will find it very boreing, and bland, not to mention, a little of the bad stuff, does help your immune system. I stick with the therory, a little of what you fancy, never hurt anybody.
February 28, 201113 yr I highly doubt a posh resturant meal will give all greens in the "healthy eating pie chart" that is now placed on everything you buy from the shop. Since resturant eating is a rare occasion for most then a salt/fat/calorie binge every once in a while aint gonna kill you

Well, do you normally eat things low in fat or high? Salt content will probably be higher than recomended for home cooking, maybe counter that by using zero salt at home, or just do what i do, eat what you like and to hell with the consequences. Once i notice myself getting out of shape i may change my ways, but at the minute im fit by the RAF's standards and dont count calories. And there are occasions (normally when we go visiting) that me and the wife eat several fast food meals a week (Mcd breakfast followed by BK lunch topped off with Chip shop dinner)
February 28, 201113 yr When Im away on work, we have to eat restaurant meals every day for a couple of weeks, and you quickly get sick of eating out. The food tends to be very rich stuff - I often have to resort to eating salads.
