the button works fine and the light comes on but it doesnt appear to do anything, fuse is okay. could it be a bad earth? i had water leaking into my break light housing at the top of the rear windscreen if that could be a cause? everything else works fine though

clean the three eath plates and rods on the lower boot opening and bottom of the bootlid respectively.

usually the cause so pointless to guess further till you've attempted atleast that fix. (use a bit of sandpaper to to get a nice metal to metal contact point again)

Done that today, so hopefully that will fix it! is the middle rod suppose to be locked halfway pushed in? mine looked a bit dodgy like it got stuck halfway was gonna wack it with a hammer lol but thought id ask first
im having the same sort of issue my boot popper doesnt work and my rear demister turns my fog lamps on, not got to the bottom of it yet but il let you know what i find it out to be

That is 99% the issue mentioned above with the contacts, give them a good clean, lube the pins if needed, they should spring in and out freely.

The center pin had melted the plastic surround and is pretty much ruined now, is my best bet the scrappy? Cant find a new one anywhere or know what to search for!

That sounds like a dodgy earth. Remove earthstrap, give them a bloody good going over with sandpaper/wirebrush combo (dont forget to clean the bolt). Clean up the area of bodywork where the bolt & earthstrap mount, replace and give it a nice coat of paint to finish. Job jobbed.

Yeah, I would go to the scrappy and pick up both halfs of the connection, should cost no more than 7-8 quid for both of them. TBH why Ford approved this part, christ knows because its a terrible design :vangry:

I forgot to mention in my original post response,

Even if the earth point cleaning doesnt solve the issue straight away don't forget to check the rear of the push rods and make sure that one of the wiring contact points haven't snapped away from the pin itself.

If.... and I stress the "IF" the issue still doesnt resolve then there's only one other point that generally effects the earthing of the bootlid and that is the hinges themselves (the hinges being part of the entire chassis earthing circuit), sometimes these can be fouled with rust particles and debris which can cause intermittent earth problems..... a couple of good taps with a hammer on each hinge face can usually temporarily solve this (I mean "taps" too, don't go lamping the hinges with a lump hammer).
