over revving when accelerating

hello all,

I have an escort encore 1.3 cvh estate 1996.

the old girl is over revving when I accelerate, but gets a bit better when the temp gauge is in the 'norm'.its a pain in the bum when your trying to pull out of a junction quickly.

someone suggested i try a new air temp sensor - i got one from the breakers and it was cured for about a week and now its back to how it was.

has any one got any ideas i could try or know what the cause is please?

thanks in advance for any help.

Are you sure its not a dodgy clutch!

i shouldnt think so unless the clutch corrects itself when the cars temp gets to 'norm' ?

i also had a new clutch fitted about 2 years ago.

That is rather weird. A dodgy sensor somewhere maybe, i dont know, someone on here must know tho, lots of knowledge flying around these pages.

When things get hot they expand, it could be the release bearing expanding as it gets hotter which engages the clutch just enough, when cold, not a hope in hell.

that wouldnt explain why it worked perfectly for about a week when i exchanged the air temp sensor?

Well, it's not sensor related, it's mechanical. Think about it, You put your foot down, you don't go faster, but it's making all the noise, the engine part is working perfectly if it revs up and drops down.....Clutch.

i know what your saying and agree but how would exchanging the sensor make it work ok for about 1 week? maybe it is the sensor thats gone again?

You can't agree with me if your asking if the sensor has gone again.....I give up.
