Ok, update and picture time. Still not ordered fuel pump yet but I've been busy none the less. And just so you know it WONT be at Ford Fair now ;( There's too much to do and I've got no more days to take off! I'm not gonna bodge it just to get it finished quicker. I'd rather take longer and do MY best. Now for the piccies:

Ok, first up, I wanted to get rid of the top section of sideskirt that shapes into the rear quarter (on a 3 door). As I have a more door this would look a bit out of place. This is what it 1st looked like.

Now the line runs along the bottom of the door shut and slightly curves down to meet the top edge of the skirt. The outward facing edge is also blended in too.

Driver side.

Passenger side.

Bit clearer in this pic.

Morettes all fixed, brand new lenses all round.

Trim and wipers with a fresh coat of matt black.

This section of boot was like most, scuffed to death and as its seen...means it had to be buzzed down, etch primed ready for spraying. Snapped all my plastic cable clips along here too. Luckily not that much of a big deal, but found some ford ones on ebay :thumb:

Tiny bit of rust coming through by where the boot stopper thing fits.

Again, was buzzed down and etch primed.

This is how we do it, DIY style :drunk:

Tack cloth and panel wipe hopefully = problem free X(

Youtube video's are pretty good. I've only ever sprayed primer from a gun or colour from a can. 1st time doing a proper job. Learnt to spray the edges 1st. Quite obvious really, otherwise you'll smother the panel in colour then end up layering it on the edge and getting runs everywhere.

WARNING: Action shot :pancake:

Bodged together a frame to hang the smaller bits on.

Door handles just got re primed and rubbed. No pics.

As I was wiping down before spraying I felt a slight ripple where I'd previously repaired :nutter: Time to refill and sand. Lucky that was before I started spraying........but after I sprayed I found this!

Using a guide coat doesnt help find tiny dents! At least my dent was as smooth as a baby's bum lol

You can also see I found another! Was walking down the stairs and just happened to be at the right angle to see it! Oh well, you cant see them untill its got some gloss colour on there which is the problem! As primer is matt you cant see these little things.

Not the end of the world. They are small but I couldnt leave them.....would drive me mental! :kill:

1st light coat.

Think thats it so far! Door repair needs sanding down. All paintwork was inspected between coats. Gently knocking off any imperfections or bits in the paint with wet n dry. Panels so far have 3 coats, car has 2. I will respray the repaired areas before a 1200 rub down before the final couple of coats. Hopefully makes it a bit smoother in the finish. Then I'll leave everything another week after that, wet n dry again 1200 before laquering. And then another smoothing of the laquer with 1200/1500 before polishing up.

Oh and my main gripe :vangry: Bloody sideskirts have been smoothed over and over, now air pockets in the fibreglass are becoming apparent. :nutter: Not lots but enough of a problem that it needs addressing before any more paint!

I did have trouble early on as the paint came out quite textured instead of nice and smooth. Bit of research on gun controls meant after adjusting the volume of paint going through and adjusting the spray pattern, it came out lots better. Probably not from a professional point of view though! Im happy though, its all about learning. Think i'll get a pressure regulater with a moisture trap too as i had to fire some air 1st to get rid of moisture from the tank!

Think that's it for this installment. I feel better that its not going FF now. My bank would be on empty after just about affording tax, ins and even petrol to get up there! And thats after buying a new fuel pump at £150 ish. I think now I can enjoy it more as the pressures not there to get it done. I cant rush because it'll be crap. Even if others dont spot mistakes, I'll know.

Comments welcome, Finally after this big ol update.....I can enjoy my cider :drunk:

P.s sideways pics were adjusted on photobucket..and saved....and they still came out sideways :nutter:
