lee grout
Cheers guys. Well another small update and....some help required too! You've seen the now widenened rear bumper using a donor. Its now glued into place along with the spats. Just gotta wait for the weekend then i'll fill the gap between the two bumper parts with expanding foam. I can then shape the section that forms the shape of the arch plus it will give strengh to the whole thing and make it solid. Then just a case of getting the fibreglass and filler out and blending together. I'll get a pic up once done. I also decided to pull apart th disced rear beam I got. http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car001-3.jpg I also pulled the calipers apart. They was so many layers of paint that I had to use a stanly blade to scrape the buildup of paint off the bolts so I could get a socket over it! These will look the part once sand blasted and painted up to match the fronts.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car002-4.jpg These are the ferodo pads that were fitted. Can the surface rust from the caliper be cleaned off and then use them or just replace them?????http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car007.jpg And here are the calipers pulled apart.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car004-3.jpg How do I take out the pistons on either piece if the caliper??? The caliper has 2 holes where the brake fluid goes through it, does that mean i should do the airline trick in both holes at the same time to pop the piston out???? Pic below?http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car008.jpg Comments welcome along with any info if you can help. Not to metion, the handbrake system has seized as its been sat so long. When you tug the mechanism on the back of the hub theres no movement. Any suggestions on how to free this up? Ahmotorsport
Try the air line to get the pistons out first. Might need some alligator grips if not. Always get new pads. Lash it in oil/WD40, wait a while and work it backwards and fowards.

Naylor2006
Mate, love your work man!!! I didnt think a 5 door could look so mean! Sorry about the beam being a bit seized and stuff, I bought it off a chap on here who also had it lying around for around a year, then it was in my parents garage for another year which is why I shifted it so cheap, knew it would need some TLC. My rear beams screwed too, not sure what it is yet but the hand brake only works one side. Sorry for the lack of help too, i'd be happy to pop round but im living 30 miles away at the moment near work so I can walk in (Taunton) until I go and get my car back 2 weeks time, unless another sequence of mis fortune results in all the body panels falling off or something. lee grout
Have those calipers been sat in a pond? I took the front brakes off my friends 1970 car thats been sat for 15 years and they werent that dirty :L Good progress though I got em off spongebob squarepants! Lol! Well here is he rear beam. Been treated to about 4 hours of sanding/sand blasting and lots of swearing. Painted up in hammerite hammered black, looks a million times better imo. I didnt want to just paint over the top....again like whoever done so previously.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car002-5.jpg Beam including refurbed calipers and ARB.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car003-5.jpg After trial fitting the sideskirts with some self tappers I decided to 'backfill' sections of the skirts to add strengh and also helps to locate them in their correct position. The other reason was so I can shape the skirt into the rear door properly and then make a horizontal cut to allow the door to open. Then just a case of fibreglassing the wide part of the skirt back to the car body. Sanding foam to the correct shape ready for f/glassing is a lot easier then trying to f/glass shapes in thin air!http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car005-3.jpgAfter which i treated myself to an easy snack while the foam expanded all over the place!!! Here is the front bumper, with hocky sticks in position, ready to blend into the splitter (not seen done before). Along with filling in the towing cover, ready for a slotted cut out to reveal my race inspired TRS tow strap http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car004-4.jpg I decided on the hocky sticks cos I didnt like the shape of the bumper/splitter. The further down you looked the bumper stepped inwards then so did the poorly fitted splitter. Made the front look too thin compared to the rest. Same principal as the skirts now, expanding foam to fill gaps. Then just a case of cutting with a knife ( bread knife works a treat) into shape, then 'glass' over the top. http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car006-1.jpg Hope to get more done soon, comments welcome
