Stu
I'd rather buy something a year or two old from a better manufacturer, like IBM/Lenovo.

EscortNreg
Been told I'm not allowed to get second hand... Our past history with second hand laptops is not good! Thus any good? http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/100016398...3gb-memory.aspx
sidrick
Not really, but you've buggered yourself by leaving it so long. Recently you could pick up an Intel i3 decent make machine for £300. The price of memory had massively risen since the Thailand floods took out a few of the big players' factories, so I don't think there will be any massive bargainst coming along soon. For anyone that's interested, I can get Dell Latitude (as Bluliz posted) C, D and E series machines, in VG used condition for a superb price (much better than in the link). And are they reliable? With all due respect, I can't sell anything to you. If I were you, I'd look at ebay shop manufacturer refubs. I've been buying refurb kit for years and it comes in unopened packaging and I've never had an issue with any refurb kit. These also shouldn't be affected by the recent issues in Thailand since they are strictly 'used' laptops. I'd go Intel rather than AMD, I wouldn't bother at all about HD size since laptops are not meant for that (store all your data on a laptop drive at your peril) and memory (RAM) will be cheap enough to upgrade down the road.
