PeeWee
If its torrents your downloading allsorts can be a factor in your speeds.Peer amounts, leechers, qualtiy of uploaders, peak time usage, the list goes on to be fair.Very few details such as what your downloading, location it was found, client your using means its hard to diagnose your issue? duffa
sorry i'm not being very clear .. for instance i tried to download this earlier today >> click and it just stops after a few minutes also i'm trying a couple of test downloads on utorrent both of which have hundreds of seeds but both are downloading at less that 1 kb/s used to have speeds of over 200 or 300 kb/s or more ..wondering if some of my settings have changed somewhere ..or is my pc on its way out
PeeWee
Might be that most are belonging to private trackers, torrents are not a great indication of speed depending who they are you see?try using a different browser to download the avg? What client are you using for the torrents? Could be your provider is having issues too, try streaming you tube see how that fairs?

stoo2000
You might also find that your ISP throttles BitTorrent all of the time, or at peak times.
scottg17
Some isps as stoo said throttle lot of ports apart from the commonly used ones ie PPTP FTP Remote desktop ect, best advice is do your peer to peer stuff overnight, thats what i do cause im throttled to about 10k at peak times
scottg17
Skip to page 34-35 you can see the thottling on non port 80 traffic, most noticable with plusnet, bt and virgin media adslhttp://www.samknows.com/broadband/pm/PM_Summer_08.pdf
