sidrick
Eek. Got it up on the ramps for my mechanic friend to have a look at what I've bought today. The news varies. It's completely solid underneath, no holes or rot and looks superb, but there are a number of issues. Lovely fuel lines:http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC13344.jpg Shiny part on the O/S/R driveshaft where the welded exhaust skims it. Exhaust needs replaced from cats back:http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC13343.jpg I think this is for the diff lock, but it's seized solid. Anyone know a part number and if it's still available?:http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC13342.jpg Considerable oil leak from the rear of the engine:http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC13345.jpg Front 2 shocks leaking, rear two not, but most likely because they're near enough empty :| N/S handbrake cable and mechanism on caliper seized. O/S/F caliper sticking a bit. Both headlights required. I can't afford ellipsoids just now The indicators stopped working completely today (any ideas?!) He confirmed the car is running flat and has a slight misfire. Really need to get the codes read. Seems better without the MAF plugged in...... it's a brand new item, Bosch number 0280213007 :-\ Evo-ites, I'm posting this on an Audi forum as well, so ignore certain parts of my posts if they're not applicable. Stu
It's almost worth taking the front end apart and getting all the items with surface rust shot-blasted and painted.
sidrick
Probably an idea for the future. Dropping the subframe off won't be happening until a lot of other niggles are sorted. At the moment I'll just be sourcing another cast wishbone (note the cheap one on the right of the photo) and getting those power coated and poly bushed Edited May 5, 2012 by sidrick
Stu
Please paint rather than powder. Poly bushes on the front arms will probably reduce grip a bit - i'd only use them if OEM bushes are no longer available.
sidrick
What's your reasoning for painting rather than powdering? The reality is that it will be down to how much cash I have at the time, and how long I can keep the car off the road (I.E. a two week turnaround for sending items away to be powder coated isn't viable), so painting is certainly a possibility. The S2 guys really seem to rate the poly bushes. None of the issues Escort owners have reported (harsh ride, bushes popping their seats). The overall ride comfort of the old Audi is massively better than the Escort, which may have a bearing on this..... It's a while off though, probably working on a £3-400 per month budget on this car with a view to having it in very good nick for winter. The priorities are the PS leak, rear break overhaul, exhaust and diff. That's probably it for the next 3 months.
Stu
My comments about the bushes were not car specific. Rubber bushes are more compliant which will give you more grip on your average road.
sidrick
That's the old Kingfisher beauty been insured for a month while the PAS is sorted on the S2. Ordered a fault code reader to see if anything pops up to explain why the engine is so flat. My shopping list for Audi tomorrow is scary :|
sidrick
Note to self. BMW X5 batteries do no fit Audi coupes, no matter how much you want them to: http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC13347.jpg
Stu
I can imagine you there with a hammer trying to get that on. Or was it the wrench handle?
sidrick
Rubber mallet after stretching it out with a couple of screw drivers. rubbish happens. That was on the blue car, so probably shouldn't be in this thread....

That was on the blue car, so probably shouldn't be in this thread.... Better than having pointless other threads...... Looks like you got quite a project there, feels good once you're on the otherside, given everything I've done over the last 9 months the car must have been a shagshow at first but I can now count the jobs on one hand. escortjas
I like these, probably a little more than i should. The noise of those engines! Is it getting the american bum the other one had? I rather liked it.
