f**k off, cars http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/e8wewk.gif

Requirement: Read diagnostics codes from car.

Process: Purchase code reader > Realise you can't find your 2x2 adaptor required for code reader once it arrives > Purchase 2x2 adaptor > Realise your car is older than your previous one so the diagnostics ports are not in the easily accessible engine bay fuse box, but under the dash > Dismantle lower dash for access to where the ports should be > Be greeted with a chimps attempt at a car alarm installation complete with missing, possibly cut out, diagnostics ports.

I repeat http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/e8wewk.gif

I assumed they should be just above the accelerator pedal where there's a wee door in the trim. All that was there was this:

Anyone got a soldering iron?

In seriousness, my brother says he will re-do all of the connections, so that will put my mind at rest with regards to catching fire. Hopefully the S2 guys will shed some light on the diagnostics port matter in case I'm being a tube.

The s2forum advised to keep digging as it wasn't uncommon for them to be crudely shoved back up after use....

Pulled the carpet and trim back as far as I could before deciding just to remove the trim in case they had been tucked away. Still nothing. I started to trace the loom as far back as I could and they were shoved right up there!

No codes when at ignition II but pulled these when running:

What do I need to be worrying about?

00523 - IAT Sensor-Temp High-Circuit Low-G42 same error code coule be Temp Low-Circuit High

01257 - Idle Air Control Valve

01247 - EV AP Canister Purge Regulator Valver-N80

01262 - Wastegate Bypass Ragulator Valve-N75

00515 - Camshaft Position Sensor

Rather new to this so any advice greatly appreciated. Is it a case of wipe them, go for a drive and see what comes back?

clean the idle valve out, cam sensor could be making it run rough, Wastegate Bypass Ragulator Valve could be letting the boost out,

EV AP Canister Purge Regulator Valve is for emissions could just block it where it goes on the inlet to see if it helps,

IAT Sensor-Temp High-Circuit Low-G42 same error code coule be Temp Low-Circuit High if thats faulty then it will be sending the wroung signal to the ecu.

If it was me and the parts were quite cheap, i'd just swap for new, arent you taking it in for professional look though? Just see what they say surely?

I do intend to take it to a specialist but I'm completely wiped out this month and have a holiday and my girlfriends and bothers birthdays (same day.... while on holiday with them, ffs) next month, so my massively spending is limited until my end of June-start of July pay.

Cleared the codes this morning and took it to work. Drives much better. I'll pull the codes over the next few days and see what has come back.

I don't know how relevant this is but a few years back i had a W210 E class and it ran like a bag of spanners until it had the faults cleared out, the guy said it hadn't been plugged into the merc software for many years. He cleared the lot out and said to give it a week of driving and come back and check the codes again. As i said it drove much better. Then a week or so later I went back and a few codes had re-occurred; a couple of irrelevant ones like the brake pedal switch and some ligthing stuff and the MAF. I then replaced the maf and my god it went as well as it ever should have.
