Game Lag

Evening it's me again.

When i'm playing an online shooting game on my PC after a while it will instantly start lagging really bad, so much so it's impossible to play, if i restart the computer it will work perfectly for another 10 minutes maybe before doing it again.

It's perfectly fine just on the internet etc. Could this indicate the graphics card is getting a bit tired/hot.

It's an Nvidia Geforce FX5500.

Cheers.

P.s it's only been doing it the past couple of days.

Check your temperatures.

Any antivirus running scheduled scans?

Anything using resources like automatic microsoft updates?

Any addons to your browser that may be either updating or slowing your browser (you say online shooter is this installed playing online or actually running via an online engine)?

Delete auto porn checking software ;)

What with? I may be sounding silly, is there somewhere on the PC i can check this?

It's telling me there is an update but i'll be doing it when i go to sleep.

Sorry it's a downloadable game, so it's own engine.

No idea what that is.

Oh and I run a spybot search and destroy or something or other once a week and it sometimes comes up with something and if it does i remove it.

It's saying there is an update, is it downloading now? Are you sure?

So it's running within your browser?

If so what browser do you use?

It says "Updates are ready for your computer, click here to install them now" so i was going to do it later, but i can do it now if you wish?

No, you download the game, it's called Warrock. It's the same as Counter Strike basically. So you play online playing other real people but it doesn't use your browser. I use Mozilla and switch to Chrome every now and then when Mozilla plays up (Should really just stick with Chrome)

Just started the updates, get it over and done with i suppose.

There is no longer an update icon bottom right, does this mean it's finished?

Holy Jesus!

Just switched to Chrome, going to try and use this more often now. It was dreadfully slow, so i checked the extensions and there was some stupid things there so i binned them and it's so much quicker now!

Now back to the problem at hand.... xD

it doesn't help that your pc and os is from the past

Well if what he stated is correct then this has only occurred over a few days.

His OS should not be his issue here in all fairness.

I used to play it for about an hour a night, but I can't even go 15mins with it now. I'm certain its a graphics issue because the rest of the computer is uneffected. But im no computer expert.

Yeah was just having a dig... XP was fine way back when, in the same way dos 6.2 was awesome when there was nothing better, 7 will run fine on really crap spec computers and its like £40

Really?

XP pro is still a very fine and capable OS even by today's standards, preferable in certain situations.

What CPU? How much memory? Size of hard drive and how much is free?

I've never seen a graphics card getting 'tired'. They either work or they don't. Perhaps you've updated the driver recently, in which case you could roll back to the last one and see if it makes a difference.

When was your PC last formatted? Windows XP gets 'tired' and bogged down. My policy is a backup, format and fresh install every 12 months for XP. That said, if you were doing that, I wouldn't put XP back on it.
