JC
What options are there to upgrade a 1.6 zetec radiator? looking to improve the cooling of my car, and in particular cool the oil temperature more effectively? thanks
escortedal
oil cooler would be the easiest option and simple to fit.ebay one but others out there john.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-MONDEO-1-6-...=item231da835b9
Stu
What problem are you trying to fix? E.g. what peak water and oil temperature have you seen?

Are you concerned about your water or oil temps? If it's the latter then upgrading the radiator is a round about way of tackling it. If you're concerned about coolant temps then (assuming your know your radiator is in good condition and flowing properly) then maybe investigate different, more efficient, fan setups. What problem are you trying to fix? E.g. what peak water and oil temperature have you seen? The high temp is from blowing an oil seal.... and it loosing oil but it also got me thinking the car when on the track is running a bit too hot for my liking... hence from my limited reading an uprated radiator can help cooling... hence throwing the question out to those knowledgeable people
Ahmotorsport
The above or ducting around the rad to force the air through the rad.

It's hard to recommend a solution without specifics around the problem.

Both, as they both going a bit high on the track... radiator is original about the only thing that is come to think about it.... and looking like it seen better days,... The above or ducting around the rad to force the air through the rad. how do you mean ducting? Stu
130 on degrees on oil out on track at one point, What oil and measured by what? That's too high for your typical 5w30. I'd expect excessive wear if that's the case. Did oil pressure drop too? The Zetec engine doesn't run a water/oil heat exchanger and you may not want to introduce one. I am not convinced it would fix your problem. 130C sounds very high from such a low power engine. I've never seen oil that hot on a Zetec, even a proper race engine under sustained use! If whatever is measuring it is accurate, and you're running a suitable grade of oil and wish to continue with this kind of operation, then i'd put a small oil cooler ontop of the front crash barrier. There are caveats with running remote oil coolers though, priming is one, takes longer to get up to pressure which causes extra wear, etc.. what radiator did you have on your GTi Turbo out of interest (I appreciate that it is a completely different application) Standard. It was adequate, but the fan wasn't. I had to change to a crappy slimline fan from the awesome OEM ducted fan due to space constraints. On top of that there was a thick intercooler (too thick thanks to people not building what I asked for) and an AC condensor. All too much for a little fan. In the summer i'd have to use the heaters to control water temp after a run.. not ideal!
Ahmotorsport
how do you mean ducting?I mean, well ducting. You put sheets of, metal for example around the Rad which stop the air going where it wants too and puts it through the rad instead, air doesn't want to naturally flow through a resistor. Aye 130 degree oil is far too hot, 120 is pushing it really. Oil cooler. Or, you could use water wetter for the track days, it's an additive to your coolant. sidrick
Is there maybe a oil cooler kit can be activated/bypassed without someone physically disconnecting it? I.E. Can be activated for track days and bypassed for day-tro-day use. Or an oil cooler on a thermostat set-up? I may have just made the above up.
