basic outline of issue.

Acer Extensa 5235 Laptop

Running W7 32bit

2.2 dual core cpu

3gb ram

everything seems peachy

attempted to link it to my home wireless network for Internet access.

internal wireless discovered the usual networks including my own.

selected mine, typed in password, connection confirmed, showing "Internet access"

opened IE, "page cannot be loaded" error message..... tried various other web addresses...."page cannot be loaded"

open Mozilla, "page cannot be loaded...... page cannot be loaded..... are you feckin deaf I said page cannot be loaded!!" (ok so I'm embellishing there a bit)

check wireless connection, nope still peachy, showing great signal strength and transfer rate of between 60Mps - 75Mps continuously.

Rechecked password just incase, nope its right.

checked firewall settings, nope IE and Mozilla both listed as allowed.

Shut off firewall entirely just to see if there was any change..... nope nothing changed...

aaaaaaaaaaaaand that's it for the extent of my technical expertise on the issue, so.... any idea's one of you tech'eds?

You've not put a proxy address into IE for any reason, have you?

Just because you have a wireless connection doesn't mean that your wireless router has a broadband connection. Check the cabling from phoneline to router, and reboot router.

the router definetly has a good connection............. Im using it to tell you it has afterall :pancake:

outa the three desktop pcs, two other laptops, my tablet and even both mine and my sons 360 everything will happily go wireless without issue and net browse without pause..... just not this f'in Acer.

IE Options, Advanced, Reset.

nope, still no go.

forgot to mention.

the whole "diagnose connection problem" button that pops up, obviously I also gave that a go and it came back with "cannot resolve your issue" shite... closely followed by the pointless suggestion of "check online for solution".

connection problem - cant get online - cannot diagnose - check online? - connection problem - cant get online - canno.......... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHFFS

additional:

shudda really done this before posting but as it turns out didn't make a difference.....

I just hardwired it into my network rather than wireless and still no joy, even using the Ethernet cable connection direct to the router I get the same result "wired broadband connection - Internet access" and properties shows comms going back and forth happily but still the "cannot display webpage" cack.

that would suggest a software issue as appose to hardware wouldn't it?

Do you know how to get to this screen?

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b227/kwikfix/ipsettings_zps56defbb3.jpg

Have you had this laptop online before on this router?

To get there:

Control panel

Network & sharing settings

On the left choose change adapter settings

right click your adapter (in your case the wireless card) on choose properties.

double click your internet protocol version4 (tcp/ipv4)

check it is set to auto on both like my pic?

my settings are identical to the ones you've shown there yer.

as for having this laptop on this network before, nope. originally I used this laptop with XP pro before I changed ISP to Sky Broadband, Bought a new shinier laptop to go with the new ISP at the time and borrowed this Acer to my brother in law up until 2 days ago.

since being with him its had 1 gig extra ram added and OS7 installed on it, he said it ran fine on the net right uptil two weeks ago when he bought himself a new pc, at mine and his request his techie mate formatted and reinstalled OS7 Ultimate before it came back to me (I don't wanna know what sorta porn cookies my brother-in-law would leave floatin about in the HDD).

Everything seems fine on it, the OS is Genuine and licensed, there's not even the slightest bit of dodginess about anything on it and the OS is exactly the same OS from before the format, even coming from the exact same disc.

still got this problem........

here's something odd though, the current desktop I'm using right now is running OS7 also and did its usual rounds of automatic updating last night.

suddenly this morning I discover its developed the exact same feckin symptoms as the laptop, check update and see only one came through last night,

"cumulative update for windows explorer 9"

did a restore to yesterday's date and presto everything's fine again on this desktop (also turned off "auto install" for future reference)

unfortunately the same option isn't available on the laptop (no restore point since format) so that wouldn't be an option grrrrr.

if you think thats the problem just delete ie9?

Says he has tried other browsers though in all fairness.

aye exactly so, though tbf only firefox.

would give Chrome a shot too but it requires Internet connection to download/install so there's another chicken/egg game.

the way its goin now I'm thinkin of just wiping it clean and buying W7Home premium pack so Ive always got it to hand if the need arises again.

Was contemplating just using my old genuine XPpro again but a few have mentioned how it soon wont be supported atall and ontop of that it doesn't come pre-installed with MSO and Excel which come in handy for both a few of he everyday work related tasks I do and the handful of school related things my son could use it for too so seems pointless.
