Internet Connection

I'm jealous.

Same here, running half that speed and think myself lucky to those that only get maybe 2mbs if lucky.

As I said, your title is misleading you have no intenet connection problem you have a wireless adapter problem.

But in fact you actually have no problem at all.

Internet speed can drop at any time with nothing you can do, its an exchange thing, it is possible they are having problems or running alterations to lines but nothing to do with your wireless connection.

Define your noted speed decrease, downloading, gaming, browsing, email, you tube?

Decrease your chances of fluctuating internet speeds by 80% by hard wiring your connection :)

Haha i would, but we move house so often it would be a royal pain in the a55.

See! I fixed it ;)

What I was meaning was tell me what your finding the speed decrease with, the above were suggestions?

Cordless phones can have an effect too, have you moved or installed one recently?

Is the decrease in speed when the phone is near or in use?

I know what you mean, i was just saying what was happening when it wasn't doing anything, i'm still trying to find whats causing it, but it just seems to happen at random points, whenever it wants too.

Nope, no cordless phones.

You said you noticed a decrease in internet speed, I was asking in what way & what you were doing when you noticed this speed drop?

You said "Aye i know, but when it does drop down to 18mbps etc the internet does get slower, i'm certain it's not me!"

Aye, when it drops down to 18mbps it all goes slow, Facebook, EVO, Yahoo etc.

Since parents have gone to bed and the downstairs PC is off, all is well, it's not fluctuating anymore, could they have been doing something downstairs that would do it?

Streaming porn? Lol I have no idea what they are doing downstairs, you could ask them?

Are they using wifi too?

Change your wifi channel, your probably using the same as them?

Dropping to 18mbs wireless won't make your 12mbs broadband go slow, but if this is when they are going on their pc downstairs and if they are for instance watching iplayer, you tube etc then that will slow your internet down (not your wifi)

The fact that their wifi may be clashing with yours sounds a coincidence and why you notice the slowdown not because of the wifi but because they are streaming something?

Changing channel and 'their' WiFi? Do we not assume they're using the same router as the OP? If so then it's got to be a pretty fancy/expensive box to allow different channels for different users, no.....?

Your right my bad, I was forgetting, of course they will be using the same router/sharing the channel you are quit right.

Although I have a fancy ass router (just though I would throw that in there) :)
