Exhausts

Alright so I looked under the car the other day, and the backbox sits a fair way from the back of the car, with the exhaust tip in an 'S' like shape. Obviously at some point I want to put a nice fat sexy back-box on the car, and was wondering what the solution was to my problem.

I'm guessing there's some fiddling around that has to go on here, i.e. the centre down-pipe would need to be extended to bring the back-box further to the rear bumper. Pictures would be awesome, thanks guys

escort standard back boxes are relatively small in length, you find more often than not that if you cut the box away as close to the pipe connection as possible you can get away with fitting a universal box directly onto the pipe (with some careful clamping/welding.

however for what its worth you might aswell just keep your eye's peeled for a powerflow system (the most commonly used aftermarket exhaust on ere), they pop up pretty regularly and at prices that make the choice between them or a possibly hassle filled universal a genuine worthwhile one to consider.

I'm sure someone was selling one quite recently if I remember right, go have a nose through the "for sale" section, you might get lucky.

I got me a Peco stainless jobbies for less than 135 notes delivered from venom motorsport, fits straight on, they have a large range of tips to choose from and the stainless ones are a few quid more than the steel ones but they look a whole lot better and with the lifetime warrenty, you'll never have to worry about buying another!

It's petrol. 1.4 LX, 1996 N reg. I'll take a picture of the exhaust tomorrow.

dnt bother with a unviversal one, it will look shite and sound shite, u can pick up half decent cat back second hand anyways for the price of a universal back box, and no need to worry about it bein second hand as theyre stainless

Alright boys and girls, here's a picture to demonstrate the issue I mentioned earlier. It seems that the gap for the exhaust tip on the LX bumper is much further to the left than the GTi one. So, when I thought I wouldn't have to change the rear bumper, and save myself some money, I was wrong. Not really sure if there is a solution to this problem other than covering up the old hole and making a new one. But I don't work with fiberglass or filler, and I may as well just see if I can do a direct swap with one that they got at the college, all it will need is a repaint.

Some pictures for your personal enjoyment...

next time my dad comes up ill get you a pic of his... his oe exhaust hole is in a similar position and he had to replace the rear bumper.. useless as parents are he got a cvh bumper instead of zetec and chose the option of cutting the bumper.. it doesnt look too bad i suppose..

as a solution your only real option is getting a zetec rear bumper... they can go for pennies really so under £100 you could have a backbox and bumper.. under £150 -200 you could have a cat back system and bumper..sometimes even cheaper

Simple solution to the rear bumper problem. Cut the hole for the exhaust carefullly with a decent tool. And cover the old hole with some GTi spats

Is the flange at the back of the 1.4 cat in the same place and style as the zetecs, if not then a zetec's aftermarket exhaust wont bolt on without a bit of flange tinkering
