the_big_man
Little bit more done today between jobs..... Found more rust by where the heater fan sits Gotta weld a new section in tomorrow. Welding is not the greatest but is going to be welded from the inside tomorrow to double everything up http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/008.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/009.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/010.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/011.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/012.jpg

the_big_man
seriously just hook the body kit off an get another mk5, gotta be cheaper and easier than all this I was thinking that a lot today but trying to find a suitable Mk5 near me is hard and also this is a good learning car for me. Seems a lot to deal with but will be worth it in the long run
supersport
what welder are you using? looks like you need to turn it up so it can penetrate better, as it looks like the weld is sat on top.
the_big_man
Its a Ferm Turbo 150 something. Its not the greatest welder but the panel has got a good hold as beaten it from both sides with a hammer. Welder has wire speed adjustment then 1 or 2 and Min / Max for power

the_big_man
Been a long ime since updating this one but have had to get another shell as this shell is too far gone for me to weld etc etc. Picked myself up a 1.3 Mk6 donor shell, bodywork is k but drivetrain is knackered but not bothered by that. So everything usable is coming off the current mk5 and going to be fitted to the new shell and done properly. Few things have arrived from mr parcel force for me so able to turn a Mk6 into a Mk5. Not going to be easy but worth it Pics to follow soon
the_big_man
Only a minor update. Started a new job and able to start doing some bodywork between jobs etc etc This is the car thats going to be converted, i know its a mk6 but have everything needed to convert to a mk5 Is only a 1.3 Encore but will have the 2.0 in her soon as picking that up next week. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/4.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/1.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/2.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/3.jpg Forgot to mention you can see how bad the paint is on the bonnet! The bonnet vents rather than being stuck on, we're going to try and brecess the vents in by making a new lip for them to sit in like the original
Scort_CVH
shame the mk5 is dead, ive been looking everywhere for one but awkward im up north! keep us updated on your progress mate
the_big_man
The mk5 is just too far gone to worth saving so using it as a donor for bits like bodykit pieces and dashboard / wiring etc and lights then its off to the the scrapyard in the sky. Luckily sunday night i won a complete replica bodykit for £122 (Front bumper, front wings, grill, 2 piece sidekirts, rear quarters, rear bumper and upper and lower spoiler). Just gotta collect sunday. Have been bust making a start on the bonnet today so when the car comes to the workshop i can start taking apart the front end and using my old wings to mock up where the lights need to sit against the bonnet and wings etc. Feels awesome now i'm able to work on it!!! Just need a set of Mk5b clocks so i can have an airbag light again as the clocks i've got have a rev counter but are the poverty spec ones with yellow dials :/ !! the_big_man
More fun today, bonnet is fitted so i could install the headlights and what a mission that was! Never realised it would be that awkward, little more fettling to do to align stuff. Playing inside tomorrow with regards to changing the Mkt dash to a mk5 unit,,,only thing i really need want is a decent mk5 clocks and a standard clock (or cossie clock) as mine is f**ked :\ new pics http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/latest051.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/latest058.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/latest059.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/latest060.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/latest061.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/l99amm/latest064.jpg Won't be long until the 1.3 gets removed as well. Just need to get everything together for it now
lee grout
Love it, MORE PICS PLEASE How many layers of paint does that bonnet have lol
the_big_man
In total that bonnet had about 6 layers of paint!!! Took FOREVER to sand down that far, but because it's going to be either radiant red or another Ford red my paint shop guy said i don't need to take it back to bare metal all over, I think i will though just to be sure there is no more little rust patches as found quite a few in that need treatment. Not looking forward to the dash change as gotta play with the wires going to the switches (Heated screens and fogs) because the plugs on the back are different. HOPEFULLY if money allows i may be able to get the car painted just after Christmas time (fingers crossed) Hows your wide arch coming along lee?
