escort tdi van build with fmic and air con

Im building up a escort van with a tdi engine air con and a fmic I got a ex royal mail van and a late tdi escort

Heres some pics

The van wont win any prizes for looks I can tell you that much but recaro interior.. elec windows aircon and other bits and bobs will make it a nice place to sit. Engine will be tuned so it should go alright for what it is.

 

Finally got to make a start on the van over the weekend, previous owner did block paving so van was full of soil an crap. Soon got into stripping it, there was a bad power steering leak so engine bay was minging. Few bits of welding needed and body is covered in dents but it will do for what its intended. Still loads to do thought id have a look at how the fmic would sit with the air con rad etc

With a packed engine bay its going to be fun routing the pipe work but I dont mind a challenge. Doner car is 90% stripped now just need to remove interior loom then the swap over can commence. Thanks for looking.

150! ur havin a laugh arent u. theyre like 60 standard

 

1.8D - 60hp

1.8TD - 70hp

1.8TDi - 90hp

 

I've heard of one being tuned to near 140 or so but wouldn't expect real eye opening performance/BHP.

 

I'd be more interested in torque and economy when buying a diesel.

Like I said a few people people have said 150bhp is possible so with an open mind I will see how far off I will actually get out of it. Malfis it has a mechanical pump so the fueling can be adjusted as they run fairly lean.

 

Will be run up on a dyno dynamics rolling road.. 130bhp would be enough but im prepared to push on an see what it has in it.

TDI engines can definitely be tuned, not sure about the 150bhp though.

The main thing is getting the fuelling right, remember what they say "if there's no smoke, there's no poke"

 

I had similar plans when i had a TDI estate, i got as far as buying an intercooler before it got sold lol

 

I'll be following this with interest, love the Mk6 vans,

A mate of mine had a hybrid turbo on his silver escorts estate but still the top mount ic his was pretty quick but wasn't put on the rollers.. another guy I know fitted a iveco daily 2.2 tdi turbo on his van but I'm sure he blew it up with too much boost.

 

 

Like I said at the top I think its out of reach but im willing to give it a try.

Got the engine and stuff fitted today along with suspension.. rs2000 brakes and braided hoses. Next is fitting the loom an making sure the air con works. Few pics

Intercooler fits nice with the rads just got to work out a route of the pipe work as the engine is mighty tight for space..
