Andy 3i
As far as resetting the ecu goes...is that battery off for x amount of time? I no longer have diagnostics that work which is making it worse :@
Stu
Really? "Was the vehicle first used between" clearly states year if car not engine. If the vehicle fails a bet test, then vehicle specific limits are introduced upon an exact engine and vehicle match. Andy 3i
I just read that. If a vehicle fails the bet test and you can't match the vehicle...I.e an escort with a 2.0 zetec NGA engine code then it goes through a non cat test anyway.
JOHNDQ
The emissions don't go on what engine is fitted it goes on the model year of the car other wise every time you fail you could just say "well it has this engine fitted" makes no difference any car after sept 92 has to met the Cat emissions. My RS2000 with a de cat and chip runs around the 2% mark and me track Evo with all the mods etc running round 400bhp and 1000cc injectors only runs around 2.5% Edited June 28, 2013 by JOHNDQ
Stu
You're wrong. Read the info posted above.
JOHNDQ
Cant be bothered to do that but you are right just checked mot book and the test is to what ever is first (think my local vosa inspector might need to look at this as i have a good chat about emissions with him last week) either way im sure the engine in question is a post "92" unit
Andy 3i
So back on topic guys...drove it last night around 10 miles...enthusiastically, and the exhaust note is different...picks up better, idles at around 900rpm but now it wants to die at idle...now I'm guessing that is the lumpy cam
Stu
Doubt it if they did intact grind it to the stage 1 fast road spec.
Andy 3i
All I know is its 'apparently' ground to zs2001. I tried it on emissions this morning and for about 20 seconds it dropped to 0.34 CO and 364 HCppm. Then it threw a wobbly and went back up through the roof. I've disconnected the battery now so I'll see what happens around midday
Stu
I'd drive it around for a few days (if you can) after the reset.
Andy 3i
It's my daily so haven't really got a choice . Any tips for the reset? Does it need driving in a certain way or just normally?
Stu
There is a recommended process but I can't remember it now. I'd take it off the battery for 5-10 mins, start it and let it idle for 10 mins, then go for mixed driving.
Andy 3i
Well it was off for 3 hours and after the first start it was loads better . Didn't have chance to stick it up the emissions machine but feels better and doesn't smell quite as bad as before. Plus it hasn't stalled yet. Hopefully remap soon after all
