Ford CD changer - Discs not spinning

Right, well I managed to get a CD changer cable and connected the Ford 6 disc changer to my 5000 radio.

 

When I insert the cartridge of CDs into the changer and turn on the radio the system checks all 6 slots for a disc, and if a disc is found it pulls this disc over to be read, however the CDs don't spin and after a few seconds the changer returns the CD to the cartridge and moves onto the next doing the same thing if a disc is in that slot.

 

So my question is, is this happening because the motor that spins the discs has failed, or is it the lens on the laser that is dirty?
