demented
Are all mk6 Escort petrol tanks the same regardless of engine size and body type ? Such as, any difference between the petrol tank of a 3 and a 5 door saloon ? Will a petrol tank from a mk6 Escort 1.6 three door, accommodate the fuel pump etc and fit into and operate in a mk6 Escort 1.8 GTI five door ? JC
yes, tanks are the same on MK6, i'd guess the pumps are sometimes different over the years
demented
Thanks. As all tanks are the same, does that mean all fuel pumps regardless of differences willstill use the same fixture to secure it into the tank ?

Stu
I'm not convinced this is a cosmetics question.
demented
I'm not convinced this is a cosmetics question. Me neither but it was because of you I posted under Cosmetics as I expect a similar comment if listed under Mechanical. It's such dilemma, I just don't know what to do ! After all, it's just a metal container with no mechanical parts, or should I have posted under Electrical due to the mention of the fuel pump ? I just hate these kind of decision. demented
I require a like for like tank to fit a 99 mk6 5 door Escort GTI. Car was bought as a stop gap while my Rs2000 is off the road, so don't want to buy a new tank. If petrol tank is same as a Rs but with different filter and lines, I guess all tanks possess the same size aperture and fixing for the fuel pump. I don't want end up with a tank from a breakers only to find it won't fit.

demented
As I've not yet and never removed a fuel tank from an Escort, can someone advised as to how the tank is fixed in place. From what I remember, it's secured by bolts but how are these bolts secured to the bodyshell. There is a good chance the securing bolts will snap, so other than drill out snapped bolts and rethread or attemp to use course self tap screws, is there an known and easier solution ? JC
tanks is held in place by 4 bolts - usually i have found they have been fine to remove...
supersport
i think the near side rear one is the worst as it gets covered in crap from the wheel, but you should be able to get somemole grips in there in case the nut plate comes loose, spray the bolts with wd40 to help. demented
Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, I'll give the bolts the WD40 treatment today and some more prior to removal. Still not got a tank yet.
JOHNDQ
I think only the 4x4 has a different tank
demented
Thanks, that's good to know. I was concerned as to whether the swirl pot within the tank would be different between engine types. I'll just ensure that I get a tank from an Escort with same body shape and engine as my own car.
