mk6 zetec turbo project

Dubs

Recommended Posts

thought i'd put up a few pics of what i've been up to with my recent purchase. i started building a 2 litre zt engine to go in a previous project car that i ended up getting rid of. i kept the engine and decided to look for a cheap mk6 to put it in. i managed to get hold of a 78k mile 1.8 si in amparo blue for £325 with a years mot and 6 months test. i bought it blind and it was pitch black and pissing down with rain when i went to collect it so the first time i had a good chance to look over it was the following day. overall i was happy with the car, it had a cracked rear bumper and a few other small issues but nothing major.

heres some pics from the ebay ad

so i got to work on the styling side of things, went up to visit fellow forum member rodssescort and bought his rear bumper with spats, front bumper with laguna splitter, sidekirts, bonnet fitted with aerocatches, coilovers and a few other bits and bobs. i've fitted most of these bits and removed the rub strips from the car for a smoother look but didn't didn't get any pics unfortunately

i spent last weekend pulling the 1.8 lump out to make way for the new engine, heres some progress pics

on to the engine, the bottom end is almost ready to go into the car, the spec isn't anything special

2 litre silvertop block,

rebored to fit 86mm c20let pistons

standard rods machined to accept the 21mm g.udgeon pins

arp rod bolts

fully lightened and balanced

cvh flywheel, standard 220mm rs turbo clutch cover, helix paddle clutch

heres some pics of the engine going together

looking good. how much did the c20let pistons set you back? Also don't the mk1 Focus RS pistons work at the 86mm bore and give a compression of 7:1

cheers mate, pistons cost £120, the focus rs pistons will only fit in a standard size 2.0 zetec bore so i would have needed to find a very low milage block to use those

What valve springs will you be running?

got some uprated piper valve springs to go in, although i've heard they're not that great but its all i have atm

blast from the past mike

alright james, long time no speak mate :thumb:

Nice to see you have an escort project again! I've got one too but have done literally nothing with it in the last few years, still haven't replaced the handle on my engine crane. :pancake:

couldn't stay away mate, what mk6 have you got atm?

i'll have to sort you out with a new handle mate, no idea where that ended up

Rs2000 4x4 with a zetec on bodies / management; hasn't moved an inch in years. suprisingly not arsed about the handle - to be fair that RST engine i sold you never worked properly did it? despite being rebuilt by its previous owner

to be fair it did fail with spectacular results, shame as it seemed fine when i first got it running, but just one of those things mate

Very nice dubs, glad to see you back and will be great to see the car in action once finished.what kind of power you aiming for?...230-250bhp at a guess.

cheers bud, the rods will be the limiting factor so can't go for silly power, but yes something around 230-250 would be nice to start off with :thumb:
