Fair bit of work has been happening since the last pics, currently its off the road with the no MOT, really sucks at this time of year, taking advantage of the great weather to get it sorted out though.

Seems the the neglect of the previous owner has taken its toll on the old girl.

All the below is copied from another forum...

Getting there slowly
Started stipping things down, going to be getting a dinitrol kit on payday so I can get it all protected from rust! hence the wings of so I can get in behind them
Both bad balljoints are out, rear caliper is waiting to go on, will be getting a couple of front shocks as well.
all going well, do the above plus discs and pads and then its MOT time
Fingers crossed!

Cheers guys!
Well some good news and some not so good news
The good news is I have a set of struts ready painted up to be fitted on
Then there was one of that moments when your feel like busting I to tears, cleaning things up a bit and treating the underside before it's dinitrol treatment and I found some dreaded metal cancer, one side Looks like it's been bottomed out and the rust is a knock on effect, other side wasn't half as bad, anyway I managed to straighten out the bad bit of the chassis leg as best I can, chopped out the rust and made some repair plates, had to do them this way due to where the rust is so I'll be welding the new plate onto the front chassis section (thicker bit) and overlapping the area I've cut out, all the rust has been cut away so a bit of galv weld through primer on the insides and a good bit of cavity way and underseal over it it'll probably out survive the rest of the car! Thanfullt I've been round the rest of the car and I'm happy to say there's no more rot or grot, think I'm getting off pretty lightly being it's a 24 year old jap car that's had no tlc other than the factory underseal underneath! Disheartening but I shall persevere and get on with it :) More updates to follow

Patches welded in place tonight, not particularly neat as I'm not the handiest at welding and lack of space underneath wasn't helping lol, main thing is the welds seem strong and most importantly clean to clean steel, once I get a good few thick coats of underbody wax all about it it will hide quite well ;) function over looks this time!

Postie came!

Bit more transformation going on! Looking much better for itself now!

More rust proofing on the go, painted up the rear shock and fitted the new spring
Same again tomorrow for the other side!

Finished with the dinitrol today
managed to get the back end all together and gave the rear calipers a lick of paint in prep for refitting
Little snap, sitting pretty low on the new springs, supposedly 35mm

What an update!

Plenty to keep me going, bulk of its been done the last couple of weeks seeing as the suns out and I'm on holidays from work

Nice update just out of interest is dinitrol better than waxoyl only asking because i've just started doing the underside of my escort.

Dinitrols great, same stuff all the new veedubs are being treated with at the factory, lookup a small car kit in ebay, should be enough for an escort, same kit I used

..........

Wasn't going to paint my front calipers till after the MOT but I'm bored waiting for parts to arrive....so carriers and calipers are done ;)

Bought a second hand caliper for the rear off ebay weeks back, all looked great but picked it up today, tried the adjuster on the rear, would go out but not back in :'(

Pulled it apart and was faced with this in bits with shagged threads. Thankfully I had a good spare piston sitting around so fitted it and now looks like I have a working caliper :) hindsight I should have got hold of the seller and got my money back but it's all good now

As she stands this evening

back shocks seem a bit lazy with the new springs so I'll be adressing that soon

Not been about for a while so figured i'd check in! :)

Been busy getting her ready for summer!

got her out of the dark stinking hole of a garage i was storing her in and went 2's with a mate on a decent garage

Began sorting some bad paint done by someone previous to myself, rear drivers 1/4 was pained to fix a little rust at the aerial base, panel was primed, painted and lacquered only on the rear of the panel and never cut in right, attempted to blend it in myself and was not happy at all with the job so decided for just now its getting redone, primer was showing through the top coat and there was a clear line where the lacquer met the old paint..... on top of that mariner blue was pained in celly so no lacquer would have ever been needed. It'll do this summer, long term plans are to give it a full paint but that'll wait till the summers over and give me a chance to get some new wings as im not happy with them either, anyway for just now this is how she is shaping up, all thats required now is a tyre and road tax and its ready to go! :)

This was all done out of a matched rattle can too as i don't have full spraying luxuries just yet!

Haha is in kilometres ;) got converted to miles when it came to the UK from Japan in 2006, going by the MOTs from its import date it's sitting about 140k ish, plans long term is a younger lump from a mk2, same minus ancillaries so she should be fit for a further 200k then
