bronze4door
i got my hands on another black si 3 door in august the story goes i was out in my focus when i spotted it and at first i thought it was an rs2000, when we stopped at the same petrol station i was talking to the owner and gave him my phone number and said if he ever wanted to sell it to give me a call, this was in February and in August i got the call after forgetting all about it. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/1174450_10151872769468738_957626787_n.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-17155155.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-17155222.jpg its got the raven flow trim RS accesory skirts, rs wheels, six speed wipers, air con, map lights and history to say its been serviced every year from new and good rear arches the bad bits is it also came with an MOT fail sheet this included: needing front wishbonesrear brakes needing adjustinga coroded brake linea tyre bellow the legal wear limitrust on the drivers side sill to floor arearust on both rear chasses legs first thoughts were to repair it and possibly put all my good bits on from my other ones and sell the rs wheels and skirts to get some money back after not touching it for nearly 2 moths and a nagging girlfriend i did advertise it on facebook to see if there was any interest in the whole thing but i was getting silly offers below what i would get for scrapping it recently becoming single and also my shifts at work have changed so i now have my mornings and my days off free to work on the car first off was to see how bad the rot on the floor was where the hole in the sill was http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-17155108.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-17155019.jpg now i am only learning to weld so my repairs are not the pretiest but i am getting the hang off it a little it made up my repair sections http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-17154930.jpg welded in and painted with hammerite http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-20130155.jpg put a patch on the outer sill to cover the whole where the rot was and where it was weak http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-20122728.jpg and had to weld the original floor pan underneath to the new pathc that a put it http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-20122802.jpg and painted it up http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-20130212.jpg the carpet went back down and front seats back it and to turn the car round and start on the back http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-24152621.jpg the exhaust was a single peice from the cat all teh way back to where it exits the car and it was shot so it was chopped off infront of the axle an old patch on the rear chasses came off too easily and left me with this http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-24123818.jpg while dodging the rain showers and not wanting to get the welder out the back brakes were stripped cos the adjusters were siezed so they were freed off and adjusted up http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-24152607.jpg since this the first repair panel has been made and around the rot has been cleaned up and the rear axle has been dropped down out of the way ready hopefully i will get on with it more this week and get the rear end all solid and painted up maybe once it is through its MOT my friend is gonna buy it to replace this that he smashed up last week so it will get all the goodies off this one put on it http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-22090339.jpg

shawdreamer
I wouldnt worry to much about your welding "looks" aslong as its solid and sealed you wont see it on a daily basis. Even the Master welder I worked with and taught me the basics of Arc,Mig & Oxy,Acy welding used to say "It Doesnt have to always be pretty but FFS lad make sure it F*ckin right!" granted he wasnt exactly Shakespeare in the vocabulary department but feckme the guy could weld a plate over a sleeping gnats wing and it wouldnt cotton on till it woke from its pleasant snooze later . scottybo
better weld than i could have done! but i guess when my old mans a seasoned sheet metal worker who welds up airplane parts......theres no need for my welding to be any good lol
bronze4door
thats the beauty of having the side skirts to go back on and cover it all up, i suppose the real test of my welding is when the mot inspector sees it

shifty
It's good to see your not afraid to have a go at welding it up yourself. As the others say, as long as its solid it wont matter what it looks like, Ive seen welding repairs a lot worse than your first attempt keep up the good work. bronze4door
been cracking on with the welder and the grinder on the passenger side rear chasses leg so this is what i had to deal with, the hole from its mot with the yellow chalk mark http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-24123808-1.jpg this is the hole where an old plate was pulled off by myself http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-24123818-1.jpg and after proding at a bit on the outside of the chasses rail revealed this http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30103601.jpg some grinding and welding later and we have a patched up chasses leg, ideally i should of made the repair out of one piece of sheet but it was made from two http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30113757.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30113816.jpg and a lick of paint http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30121050-1.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30121032.jpg it could do with the whole underside being treated and undersealed to protect it but my friend can do that once he has taken ownership of it and the remanents of escort on my driveway http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30121550-1.jpg and the repairs that are going to be needed to the other side http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30121158-1.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-11-30121143-1.jpg that is tomorrow's job and depending on how i get on with work this week i need to put some wishbones on it, put the stainless exhaust off the crashed blue one on it, and get some tires then it sould be ready for its mot

bronze4door
some more pictures of the work that has been carried out this week on the si first off removing the bad bits on the car, it must of driven horrible with knackered wishbones and no front brakes and a slack handbrake http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-06125951.jpg and what was left of the brake pads http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-04112719.jpghttp://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-04112701.jpg and now with nice shiney new brake pads and discs i had in my stockpile and two new wishbones http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-04134445.jpghttp://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-06125959.jpg had to battle snapped pinch bolts and rounded off wishbone bolts as i dont think they have been off for a long time i am just waiting for the exhaust and wheels off the crashed blue one to put onto this next but my friend needs to pull his finger out stripping his car
bronze4door
give it a good wash last weekend cos it was hanging, it does need a polish as there are a few marks on the paint work that will come off with a polis especially on the rear quarter near the filler cap http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-08141853.jpghttp://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-08153717.jpg one of the things on the MOT failure sheet was the number plate light wasn't working, the bulb wasn't blown so on furhter inspection the connections for the bult needed cleaning up, the passenger side rear indicator also wasnt working and the connections also needed a good clean on these butall is well and all the lights now are fully working http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-15152355.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/bronze4door/2013-12-15152341.jpg the exhaust of the crashed car has still not been given to me to install and same goes for the tyres and also the passenger side window regulator the cable has broke so that will be getting taken of teh crashed car at some point to be fitted to this, i am probably going to end up going round to my mates and taking the bits off it myself Edited December 16, 2013 by bronze4door
