Neil-Serenade
I'm still looking into the possibility of having a complete stainless steel cat fitted. I've seen sports cats advertised which state they fit an Escort but are also universal but I'm also wondering if it would cost much to have some pipework and flanges made up, again from stainless steel and have them welded to the universal sports cat or maybe have one piece of long tubing coming from the cat which acts as the middle pipe as well. I've seen just a stainless steel decat pipe but I think its silly money at £97 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291111737718?_tr...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I've also come across this but not sure if its stainless steel even after sending a message http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351021913694?_tr...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I know it seems like I'm dragging this out but after considering whether to keep the Escort or not, the car means a lot to me so if I'm going to do something to it, I want to try and explore every option and get the best I can available instead of just getting an off the shelf part from a car parts superstore. If that means taking my time then so be it. Thanks again.
Jordan99940
I Just tip toed all around this by purchasing a sports cat. I think I do still have mine to be fair how ever I wouldn't sell it as i cant be guarantee the condition of it. even though I was more than capable of changing the de cat come MOT time, i just found the S/S de cat was too short and every now and again would slide off the system and leave me sounding like a Harley Davidson. Neil-Serenade
Does anyone know how big the catalytic converter is in terms of length and inlet and outlet size for the pipes only I may have found a stainless steel one which is 16" long with the pipes being 2.5" wide. When welding, do the two ends of piping need to be the same width or thickness etc or is it OK if one slides over the other then welded? Cheers again. Neil-Serenade
Also forgot about the lambda / hego sensor. Does this have to be fitted in order for it pass emissions and if there is no connector on the catalytic converter itself, could it be modified anyway to connect it? Cheers. scottybo
If it isnt fitted. The engine wont run right. on the standard cat. The probe just screws into basically a big nut thats welded onto the pipe so yes any pipe could be modified to have a lambda boss fitted
Neil-Serenade
How would I go about having that done, would a stainless steel welder be able to do it? Don't suppose you could weld and bend steel could you mate?
scottybo
bending pipes a bit difficult without all the right gear anyone with a welder will be able to weld the boss into the pipe for you mate. if you have the original at pipe, why not get the cat cut out and have the new sports cat (or whatever youve got) welded in its place? Neil-Serenade
I'm considering just having a cat welded in and keeping the original pipework. I'm just thinking later on in case that starts to corrode, get it done down out the way. Cheers again.
