Benny
Hi I am going to be getting into another ford, it's a focus st170 the only problem is there is no service history with the car. I have gone on vosa web site and looked at all the previous MOT's and done a car check on autotrader and all has come back ok. How would I be able to track down any service history of the car if that's possible Thanks
lee grout
What more do you want? If you got MOT's and the hpi thing is clean then I wouldnt worry. Its better to check a car out in person to see whats what, not just rely on irrelevant 4 yr old history! If your that fussed see if yu can get hold of the previous owner and ask them. However if you can see everything in mot history and in the flesh it looks ok then dont worry. How do you think people bought cars in the old days! robbie
to me service history means Fcuk all all it show is wats been spent on it i bought a saab 9-5 had every recipt even for screen wash all stamps etc ect yet the bottom end still failed so dull service history didnt stop it from going bang
Craig855S
service history only PROVES that it has had regular inspections and oil changes, stamps dont mean that the worn bits and bobs have actually been replaced (unless accompanied by reciepts for the bits) a lot of high mileage cars dont have history much past 120,000 miles ish because they dont care enough about retaining the value to take the service book along to quick fit when they get the oi service done, and many people may have the car serviced by a family member or DIY. If the seller is a keen amatuer mechanic and says he's changed the oil himself then its up to you to believe or disbelieve him. Ive bought all my cars with no proof that it had a proper service for a long time and ive not had anything die on me So take a look at the car, and if it all seems good, i'd go for it, just make sure you know what youre looking at

A 'proper' service isn't just firing in a few filters. That's why it's important to some people.
scottybo
i know that. but everything on that list, much like other main dealer list is just check thischeck that stuff that i would check on a regular basis anyway (i understand 95% of people wouldnt though) im not saying service history isnt important to some people

Craig855S
as sid has said a proper service is inspecting the car for items which may be past their best (but not even mentioned on MOTs) My current car has no history past 120k but was serviced august just gone (you can see the date written on the clearly brand new fuel filter and theres a sticker on the cam cover for the belt) but between 120k and 190k Im unaware how well looked after it was, all i know is it's good enough for me and i have no doubt the engine will continue on for as long as i care to keep the car, it does have some niggles ill be fixing over the next few months, i may even get a SUYM going

Benny
thats a fantastic price! Thanks mate it was hard getting one in the colour I wanted because as soon as they went on ebay or autotrader they were going fast. Looked on gumtree and the first car I done checks on flagged up as stolen so I didn't bother with gumtree. The car I got come on ebay at 7.30pm and by 8am was mine . its pretty straight car the only thing I dont like is the k&n cone as its a bit loud other then that all good
