ecu question

so for my new engine (1.8 130)

I have an 'aqua' ecu. key chip, and transponder ring.

is there anything else at all that i will need to make this ecu work and run with the engine that i have got. i believe it all came out of a mk5b cabriolet and will be going on my mk6

any advice will be greatly appreciated as this electronics and ecu lark is way above my head im afraid

Okay, for this engine there are 2 ECUs

one is with external EDIS

and

one is with internal.

Your ECU, AQUA has internal EDIS, which is better imo!

So if your original harness is for internal EDIS - plug it in and happy tire squeeling.

If not - i'll have to dig through old messages in our forum where i wrote to a buddy in your situation but with external EDIS how to rewire it. It's about 4-6 wires easy iirc.

I did a bit of searching for ONIS ecu. I found out it's SKU is 98AB 12A650 AWB and im pretty suspicious it has PATS which might complicate things a bit. Need to get the wiring diagrams from AutoData and/or Tolerance (but they are a bit messy in some years) to figure out which wires to go where.

OR i can post what is necessary for AQUA ecu, rewire the plug, cut and isolate the ones which won't be needed and finally rewire the rest to the missing sensors.

OR better just get a wiring harness from the scrap yard:)

this is for the Mondeo 2.0 ECU, no PATS, internal EDIS and yours (AQUA) should be the same. Maybe except:

- fan control pins (for example pin 13,15,31) because yours is controlled by a thermal switch on the hose between thermostate housing and radiator i guess. You can rewire your fan relay to be switched from pin13 tho and get rid of some wires around the engine and the switch on the hose.

- egr stuff (pin 27, 33)

- pulse air system... (pin 14)

Mondeo DESK

1 1 Battery (memory power always live)

2 2

3 3 Speed Sensor

4 4 Tacho

5 5

6 6

7 7 ECT Sensor (above thermostate housing)

8 8 Fuel Pump Relay

31 31 Engine Coolant Fan Relay 3

32 32

33 33 EGR

34 34 Digital Multifunction Display

35 35 Injector 4

36 36

37 37 Engine Control Relay (switched live)

38 38

39 39 Injector 3

40 40 Current Return (ground)

41 41

42 42 Octane Coding Plug (wire to ground if RON95 or above is used)

43 43

52 52 Injector 2

53 53

54 54

55 55 Crank Position Sensor

56 56 Crank Position Sensor

57 57 Engine Control Relay (switched live)

58 58 Ignition Coil 1&4

59 59 Ignition Coil 2&3

60 60 Current return (ground)

So for wiring harness with external EDIS to internal and without PATS:

injectors:

move wire from pin58 to pin51 (injector1)

move wire from pin59 to pin52 (injector2)

ignition coil:

rewire: pin12 of EDIS plug to pin58 of ECU plug

rewire: pin10 of EDIS plug to pin59 of ECU plug

Or directly from pin58 and pin59 of ECU plug to the coil plug pins 1 and 3, just have to see which was on which bank. (the middle, 2, is constant "+" on gnition key ON/Running)

crankshaft sensor:

rewire: pin5 of EDIS plug to pin56 of ECU plug

rewire: pin6 of EDIS plug to pin57 of ECU plug

tachometer:

rewire: pin11 of EDIS plug to pin4 of ECU plug

And maybe a wire from the fuel pumps "+" to pin8 of the ECU plug.

IF the ECU harness of your car is for ECU with PATS - DON'T do it. I dont know which wires to remove and what to do with them atm.

Basically with the above and with enough free time to spend on the car you can rewire anything, just have to be good with the multimeter. Separate all wires to the engine - sensors, coil, injectors ect. and rewire them to the according pins of the ECU plug.
