Zaggaman
hi guys, im in need of some advice, ive just been given a 1994 escort mk5 1.4 lx for free, my dads getting a new car as he needs power steering, the car seems to run ok but does need work doing, my main worries are the battery tray & passenger foot well, the battery tray is completely rotten through & water is getting in which has caused the passenger foot well to rot too, im assuming someone has drained the water as there is a square cut out of the carpet in the foot well & a large rotten hole which looks like maybe it used to house an oval rubber bung? could be wrong but hey this is my very 1st escort, i dont know where to start with the battery tray it looks like a lot of work, can anyone advise me on where to start & how to approach this, welding is not an issue ive welded on cars many times before, im just worried about starting the work & running into more problems, the cheapest battery tray i have found so far is £40 off ebay. thanks for reading, any replies will be much appreciated. lee grout
If your ok with welding then the floor section should be no problem, straight forward cut out and replace. I'm not sure how awkward the battery tray is to get at tbh. I'm SURE there's someone on here who have done this. Thinking of it, check in the SUYM section for a topic started by 'The Big Man' he's got a mk5 on the go and think in the early stages he replaced the rotten battery tray. Look in his thread and /or send him a pm.

the_big_man
You can buy a new battery tray panel for the mk5 no problem, think i got mine for about £25 delivered, you will need to pull the dash out to gain decent access for welding, i started to repair my mk6 then found too much rust for my liking lol linky linky http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ESC-90-BATTERY-T...=item1e7277b8f7
