Matt's Escort GTi track car

Hi Guys,

This may not be of much interest as it may be too new but I am pleased with it so here goes:

First of all, had a MK5 XR3i that looked like this:

This, like all MK5s started rusting and as this is used on track I didn't want there to be strength in key areas to be compromised, so the search for a new shell started. I considered anything: MK5, MK5a and MK6 and I wasn't concerned about spec, as long as it was a three door. After lots of wasted trips (lots of people can't see rust it seems, even after being directly asked on the phone) this little 1.3 Encore fitted the bill:

After patiently looking around my local scrapyard (Where you can still walk around and get you own parts) for bumpers, I eventually found some Radiant Red goodness in the form of a rear bumper and rear spoiler. Then 2 weeks later another in the form of a front bumper. I had the side skirts already so I simply repainted them. Over a series of weekends I transferred everything from the MK5 to the MK6 and last week got a fresh MOT. Now just doing a shake down before my first track day at the Castle Combe action day.....

Thanks for the comments guys. It's running a 1.8 zetec with Throttle Bodies, Cams, OMEX, ported head so goes very well.

As for "Where's the GTi" if you want to be pedantic then yes, it's still an ENCORE but it's not as if a GTI is desirable (unlike an RS2000) or particularly great in standard form - which is why I have gone for it as no-one expects a GTi to be fast!

Plus it has the performance to back up the looks unlike a lot of "Lookalikes"
