Morning. Just wondering if any of you guys have attempted to tint your own windows using film & if so, have you got any suggestions or tips to make it easier only I tried doing mine yesterday & to say it didn't come out well is in understatement. I followed the instructions but when it came to offering the film against the outside to trim, no joy as the solution base to keep it wet kept drying out even though the weather was cloudy. I know you will probably say get it done professionally but I can't justify those prices even though its the time & skill your paying fir,. The film only cost £5 so thought was worth a go but when I removed it completely, the window was covered in dry streak/run marks from the solution. I guess you got to be quick when applying it. I'm thinking maybe make up some cardboard templates & cut the film indoors? Any suggestions appreciated as always. Thanks.

Hi mate I wouldn't bother.its a pain.

Put the solution is washing up liquid and water in a spray bottle.

I would get it done by a professional.

The back window is a nightmare because it's curved . Most people but a join in it on one off the heater lines.

Also if it keeps messing up you might as well get it done properly as in the end it will be costly in materials.

actually lidls is selling tinting film for a fiver a role atm lol i picked a few roles up the other day for sh!ts and giggles

That's where I bought it from lol. I thought for a fiver it was worth a go. If it came out good then brilliant & if it didn't, it's only cost me a few quid. I don't know if the film the pros use is any better but the box said quick & easy to fit, I beg to differ. I swapped it for another so might give it another go with a template.

I done a 306 rear doors and S60 rear doors myself to a very good standard (you wouldnt know unless you got v.close that it wasnt professional)

however the job ive done in my V70 is an abortion, apart from on the long side windows, the rear doors failed and the rear screen failed (maybe this film is cheaper than the last lot i used)

Use washing up liquid and water and lay the film on the OUTSIDE of the glass first, heating and squeegeeing it to the glass then cutting it to the shape of the glass inside of the "dot matrix" black dots, then move it to the inside and repeat, then remove the backing and finally lay it properly on the glass (again using shitloads of lube on top of and underneath the film)

Practice makes perfect
