Neil-Serenade
Morning. My Escort hasn't been serviced for a while so thought its about time that it had a full service & I was just wondering if there any recomendations as to what make of parts to use. Do I go for bog standard basic or genuine Ford or are there more expensive parts which help with performance like the air filter? Same with the fluids as well. Also, sorry to sound thick but what actually needs changing on a full service, I'm thinking the following? : Air FilterOil Filter & Oil ChangeFuel FilterPollen FilterEngine CoolantSpark PlugsBrake FluidPower Steering FluidDistributor Cap Obviously the ckecking of brakes, belts tyres etc, if there's anything I've missed let me know, cheers again. PS Can all the above be done with a basic tool kit?
scottybo
Escorts (mostly) dont have a pollen filter im afraid. And they certainly dont have a dizzy lol servicing can be done with a basic socket set and some spanners. Il be honest though iv never changed brake fluid as part of general maintenance (bit lazy on my part i know) simply because bleeding brakes imho is a ballache. I had to do all 4 cornered when i did my brake conversions and i hate every minute of it!
JC
You can always try on ebay for genuine parts being sold cheap? I use castrol oil, euro carparts have got 50% off at the momentDon't forget wiper blades - bosche are cheap and cheerfulI used splitfire leads with a life time guarentee,NGK irdium plugsgenuine ford ford filtergenuine ford oil filtercan't remember what brake fluid i had in, was uprated for track use.plus anything that looks like it needs doing! A service is all open to interpretation... I seem to recall autodata or similar will tell you what needs changing by the mileage, asuming it has been service by the "book"
scottybo
i never service by mileage because you dont know how harsh each of those miles has been on the engine, mine gets done once a year. in may lol
Neil-Serenade
When you say Splitfire leads I assume you mean the HT leads? Didn't think of those. So I assume apart from the air filter which I could change, there isn't much in terms of performance spark plugs or filters. If that's case I'll probably stick to the genuine ford parts, like you said sometimes cheap on eBay.
