jdunn91
Hi,I am looking to swap a bigger engine into my mk6/7 ford escort 1.6 4wd (I live in norway). Ideally looking to put a 2L zetec and later down the line have a turbo conversion done.I heard there are a few options for the swap, but want to see what else is possible?ThanksJosh
jdunn91
Unfortunatly the Rs2000 4x4 is not a option as they are more then £6000 here.
Stu
Do you mean engines other than the 2L zetec? Nothing is a direct drop-in other than the Zetec, i4 and CVH range. Anything else requires fabrication work.
jdunn91
Sorry for the confusion, What i wanted to know is, what is the best 2L zetec to drop in? (Mondeo, Focus) Thanks!
SLEEMAN
I would say people are moving on to the black top zetecs from the focus etc nowadays with some minor fabrication, the older silver top zetecs are getting hard to find, unless ford still stock the engines brand new but I doubt it
jdunn91
Thanks man that helps me out! Do you know if a 2 L duratec from a mk3 mondeo fits or is that engine a wadte of time? Thanks
SLEEMAN
Duratec engines are way too much work as the inlet is at the front and exhaust is at the back. Good for throttle bodies! Lol
jdunn91
Looks like its zetec power then! Thanks!
SLEEMAN
I'm curious to know how you guys got 4wd over there for any engine! Did you do a conversion or was that from factory?
jdunn91
In the nordic countries its from the factory but only comes in a 5dr and stock engine of 1.6 16v zetec. Hopefully wont be to much work dropping in a normal 2L mondeo zetec engine in. Once i have the parts lined up and start the work i will definitely post some pictures on here. scottybo
The 4wd system u believe is identical to the rs 4wd system we can get. Which will happily mate up to a zetec engine
jdunn91
Sweet! I heard the rs 4x4 boxes can be fragile, what is recommended if I want to get this engine in the 250bhp range? Also I found a 2L dohc silver top from a mondeo is this suiatable?
scottybo
I know the transfer boxes can be a bit weak but i couldnt advise on them much im afraid mondeo silvertop would be perfect!
