if it has a digi dash then there will be a sensor for the speedo i would have thought.

there will also be a switch for the reverse light. all gti engines are 115bhp but the cabby engines change between the 3 different 1.8s i believe, if its a 130 then it will be an mtx75 box anyway which would be way different to the ib5 on your gti

cheers for the fast reply ive had to leave the car on a mates ramps , due to assuming the gear box would be fine the gti it came from & my cabby are both non digi dash , according to the car check my cabby is 115bhp so i would have thought it would have been a straight fit. nothings gone right today :(

should be an ib5 then in which case both should be interchangable. measure the diameter of the cabby flywheel, should be about 220mm which would match up the the ib5 box

if the flywheel is around 240mm then its been fitted with an mtx box

If considering to fit MTX box to the cabby and the cabby originally got the IB5 box, then the driveshafts will be different, also the spindle carriers.

I believe MTX driveshafts are thicker than the shafts of IB5 box.

I have a 99 Gti without digi dash and its still has a speed sensor and wires fitted where the speedo cable passes through and into gearbox.

right the only gear box i can find that looks identical to the one removed is this can any one confirm what it is , also alot of garages are saying my engine doesnt look like a original a early focus was there example or could it be a cabby thing or a cross over period ? its a 1.8 zetec with the egr on top were these used in the escorts?

If only concerned about electrical connection, I wouldn't worry.

Can only be Vehicle Speed Sensor & reverse light wires, I can't think of anything else.

Just remove reverse light switch from cabby box and fit into Gti box, same with Vehicle Speed Sensor, if required.

Personally, I dont believe the speed sensor is needed if your cabby hasn't got a digi dash.

Although the VSS is currently fitted & connected on my car, when I was attempting to eliminate an engine revving issue, I disconnected the VSS with no adverse effects. However, I've read elsewhere on the Internet, that if disconnected it will cause the engine to enter into limp mode, which I guess is only relevant to yourself if your cabbys gearbox has a speed sensor fitted.

what year and what inlet manifold is on the the cabby? as the box pictured is a rear starter one. i know the early mk6's had the alloy inlet and front starter box on them.

hi the cabby is a 96 im not sure what manifold is on but here is a picture of the engine

i was thinking could it be a cross over period so is it possible it could have mk5 bits on?

a closer look from when i 1st got it http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn129/allanmichealsmith/Mobile%20Uploads/SC20140427-191140_zpswmwoaoti.png
