Hi all, my father inlaw has just bought a 1998 r reg escort convertible 1.6 calypso 16v zetec. When first starting when it is cold the idle is poor and it cuts out but after 5 mins or so once it is warm it doesn't cut out but i picked the car up from essex yesterday and drove back home about 1hr30mins and noticed the temp gauge wasn't working. Any idea what is causing this? i noticed there are 2 sensors on the thermostat, one above and one below, a sensor on the radiator pipe under the airbox and one on top of the air intake right at the top of the engine bay, any idea what these all do and if it could be these causing the problem, cheers dave

check all the vacuum pipes , could also be the idle control valve which is common ,
