jdunn91
Hello, I recently pulled out the left front driveshaft of my ford escort 4x4 1.6 as it was broken. I wanted to see if I could use the end that goes into the box to "dummy" the car into thinking its rwd (or in this case 3wd), however it would not run in first or second but pulls slowly in 3rd, 4th and 5th but perfectly in reverse. What I want to know is does my box run on resistance? as that would be why its not pulling in 1st or 2nd. Or is the box broken? I understand its a bit of a weird question but I need to know before deciding to continue as there is a load of run that needs dealing with and if its the box il just take what I need and scrap it. Thank you
stuey650
Thats because all the power will be going to the wheel with the least resistance, i.e the driveshaft with nothing connected. Thats where LSD's and lockable diffs come in when off roading, so the wheel with the least grip doesn't get all the power.
jdunn91
Thank you so much! So when I pop in the new driveshaft it should work like normal?
stuey650
Can't see any reason why not. If it all worked before the driveshaft broke and now it doesn't then its makes logical sense that by replacing it all will work again. Unless we're missing some of the story here.
