Rear wheel breaing

Fitted 2 new rear wheel bearings approx 3 months ago on my GTi.

Recently 1 of the rears started whining. Identified which one, holding wheel at 12 & 6 o'clock positions and it would rock, the same when holding it at 3 & 9 o'clock positions.

Fitted a new one, torqued it up, there is still rocking when holding at 3 & 9 o'clock positions, nothing at 12 & 6 o'clock positions........ why?

Worn stub axle?

sounds like, did you grease it all up decent when you swapped the bearing out and was there any sign of leakage?

dry bearing will whine after a while obviously but usually not before its done some surface damage to the axle in the meantime.

Yeah it was packed with grease, no signs of leakage at all. Looks like I need to purchase a stub axle.

Any idea on price?
