Cabriolet project

Intending to make this good to run as a weekend car for a bit of fun. Think I may need a load of advice on how to sort various things out. Also any idea on other forums that I might find useful information in?

Got it being looked at by a company called dlf classic cars to let me know about the engine. They're supposed to be really good so fingers crossed for tomorrow when I find out about the situation with the engine. If it just needs a little bit of work I'll keep it and get everything sorted out, if it's knackered I'll look at letting it go.

It's got pretty much every modification you can think of lol!

Here's what I can remember:

Rs2k headlights

Full cossie bodykit including arches (little bit of cracking that needs sorting.)

Rear bumper has had a hit cracking paint and bumper, would need repainting and repairing.

Full aftermarket exhaust system.

Lowered 60mm

18" Khan RS-S alloys with Pirelli PZeros.

Clifford alarm. (May need replacing)

Rs2k disked rear beam.

Uprated front brakes (brake lines may need replacing)

Delocked (PITA with alarm playing up and no manual unlocking)

Turbo conversion (White smoke on start-up for 5 minutes - hoping I can find out the situation about this tomorrow)

1.8 zetec has been put in, possibly with standard CR, but apparently boost was only at 10psi so okay. (Find out more tomorrow about this)

Bonnet vents are letting a load of water get in and flood the cylinders as they are covering the ignition leads and there isn't a watertight seal.

Turbo sounds great, love the dump valve noise when changing gear, very cool that they never made a petrol turbo mk5 escort besides the cossie.

Mohair roof (looks like it needs to be fitted professionally as has been bodged on).

Xr3i wingback seats with full leather retrim including cards.

Aftermarket momo steering wheel. (Makes scraping noise against the plastic cowling ATM).

Single wiper conversion. (Little rusty wiper arm that could do with being painted black, scuttle panel little loose too.)

Electric windows and hood. (Windows aren't smooth going up and down and as said before roof needs looking at).

Not sure how much all of the above will cost tbh. How much do you think the car would be worth if everything had been done and made good?

Here is the website in case anyone was interested, based in the Suffolk area.

Me too! I saw some posts on another forum with a tuner that was getting 10psi safely, but there could be a decompression plate fitted that I wasn't told about.

I'll get the full lowdown tomorrow all being well.

When it was firing properly it was actually going pretty well considering it was setup for a 2.0 with the engine management.

Found out it's the turbo which needs rebuilding £200-300.

Also needs remap on the omex ecu as it's really difficult to start from cold so hasn't been setup the best for this engine.

Oh and there's an air leak that needs sorting out.

He thought that it would be worthwhile doing and I wouldn't be throwing money away on it.

He thought it would be £1k to get the above 3 things done.

Looks like we are going to be in business.

I asked for a quote for all the work and I think the numbers all add up to making this financially viable and not throwing money away.

Really looking forward to getting it back and getting the bodywork tidied up along with the hood, although that might have to be a job for later on. Dom, who owns DLF said he'd be looking to get 200-220bhp out of it safely and reliably which is better than I was expecting.

The underside of it is decent too they said as lots of these are pretty rotten now.

What sort of value do you think this would have if it was running 220bhp, had decent bodywork and in good order all round?

Gave it a clean today as it was nice weather. Haven't polished it up or anything, hopefully I'll get it done this week.

I would like to get the rear bumper sorted out next.
