My escort problems.

Recommended Posts

I have an escort 1.8 Si. Looking to modify it by adding some alloys, skirts and spats(???) and some paint work.

1. Do any modifcations have to be carried out when fitting 17inch wheels? i.e rolling the arches, etc?

2. Any suggestions as to which wheels and tyres to fit?

3. How is the best way to fit skirts and spats? Glue or Screw?

4. I intend to either paint of change the side strips and door handles to body coloured ones. Is it possible to just paint these parts or do the need to be changed completely?

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

It would of been much easier to have bought a GTI or an RS, but as its a 1st car I could afford the insurance.

Thanks

as far as i know for 17s you will not need the arches rolled. but as for which wheel i personally like the Kosei range.

As for the sideskirts get a professional to do it, it may cost more but worth it as you dont want to be driving down the motorway and then a side skirt comes off.

The side strips i have had them taken of then doors smooved out and resprayed the doors.

The door handles just et them sprayed when you have the skirts done

PS welcome to the club :D :D

alright mate?

17´s will go straight on your car wit 205 40 tyres, thats the norm!

i personally like the mille miglia range and tyres, ive got falkens!

like cossie rep said best to go to a bodyshop, they bonded mine on!

as for the handles and strips get them colour coded when you have the skirts sprayed! although ive had the strips removed!

welcome to the club :D

Truth be told, i dont think that you can choose a set of alloys for your car until you know exactly what your going to do with it, or else they are just gonna look out of place, if you dont know what the car´s gonna end up like a safe bet is a variety of 5 or 6 spoker, and if you wanna go for a bit of style you could get them in black chrme, or white (if your going for the motorsport look).

If you go JAP style, or Euro style then your choice of wheels will need to be a careful one to complement the looks of the car etc.......

Ultimatly its down to your opinion, however if your just gonna have a GTI replica with few tidy extra bits then the world is your owster.....

Rant over!

Hi Mate

Mt car was a standard si like yours, I got tmy door strips color coded cost £100 but woth it u could take them of but there more risk of gettijng scratch, as for Gti kit, try esp design or prosport, my kit cost £200 sprayed and fitted, and it always best to get a pro to spray as it look shite whn u done it your self, as for alloys I think multispoke look good, but that really up to u. Hope this help :D
